OMG! I am SO excited! - 02-01-2008, 03:30 PM

Ok So I work for a company called American Eurocopter. I have been on a contract out here for a few weeks now. Well long story short, me and a co worker were invited last minute to go for a ride in a helicopter! It was an EC130! That was SUCH a neat experience! I only WISH i had my camera Gear with me! We flew over the new cowboys stadium, the ballpark in arlington and six flags.
It was a test flight so it was a short ride, but WOW! I am STILL on cloud 9! hehehe Just wanted to share with SOMEONE about my AWESOME Day!

Helicopters are very cool. The wife and I went to Kauai for our honeymoon, and of course had to take a ride. I was just excited to be on a helicopter -- being in Kauai was just icing. Glad you had fun! Next time take your camera!

I have only been on two helicopter rides in my life -- I jumped out of the first one (a huey,) and the other (a blackhawk) I was on a stretcher as a pretend casualty as the pilots were taking us on a tree-top map of the earth type ride in total lightsout darkness.

The first ride I was too nervous to really enjoy it (I always got nervous before a parachute jump) and the second one I never got to really look around, and came close to getting sick from the ride, so it wasn't completely enjoyable either. Thrilling and exciting and strange and new and memorable and, etc... but not really enjoyable.

Nevermind -- I'll take care of it myself!

I was actually shot down in a Huey in 'Nam. It all turned out OK, but was something to tell about for the rest of my life. Been on literally hundreds of chopper rides, both for fun and for business. It's always a thrill.

The only one I've ever ridden in came to me to pick me up.
In a parking lot no less!
With a police escort.
I had to ride horizontal in it though. They made me lie down on a gurney. No seat for me!
Man, that was a bumpy ride. I thought I was going to wind up front with the pilot!
This chopper was kind of white with sort of orangey stripes. It had a name...CareFright... Care Flight... something like that, I think. And they took me to some Park.
Ahhh, Park Land it was called, if I remember right.
Seems I had cut my finger...Pretty Bad!!!

I bet that was an awesome ride.

You should almost always have some type of camera with you, though. Although the rule seems to be that if you don't have it, you'll see really cool stuff. :-)

Wow, really cool, but I tend to get motion sickness (badly) on small planes!

You know, helicopters don't actually fly.......

.... they are so ugly the ground repels them.

or...

... they just beat the air into submission.

Eurocopter 130 - 02-01-2008, 07:58 PM

They're pretty good at saving lives also. Eurocopter came out with the enclosed rotor several years ago. The tail is what made Eurocopter what it is today. It is driven by the air produced by the jet engine instead of a driveshaft, which increases it's safety by almost 50% from shaft failure. Much safer on the ground when it has to be landed "hot",(keep the engine running) for a quick take-off. You are also not as likely to crash it if the tail bumps something such as trees, powerlines or even a building or two. They are also very roomy for their size.

Flew Hueys for many years while flying DUSTOFF (aeromedical evacuations) and loved every minute of the experience. There is a very exciting feeling when you strap in and yell "clear". The smell of JP4, the whining of the turbine engine, the thumping of the rotor blades, the exhilaration of flying low level and nap of the earth is something I would never trade. I still look up and smile every time I see a helicopter fly over. I am glad you had a great experience.
