Back to VA we go - 02-04-2008, 09:59 AM

I have come to terms with it though. I will go and make he best of it. Atleast we get to go back to "real" Navy life. His last ship, 10 years ago was his best command, so we hope this one is too.
Boy has this been an emotional ride though. Friday based on one question he was taking the job. Sat he came home from the rally and no way in hell was he taking it Wouldn't even talk to me. BTW do men PMS? I swear they do Sun we talked alittle but he was still very bitter. I did some research he liked some of what I found. Called this morning and gave me the answers from the detailer, and it was opposite of what he wanted but in the end we decided why the heck not. It can't hurt, well except having me as a wife
So wish us well dh will be out of here by May, hopefully the house sells and I will be out sooner than that.

Any suggestions on what to do "photography" wise to get my name out there etc....?
Thanks for letting me vent the other day.

LET'S TRADE!!! I miss the hell out of VA Beach. Spent 6 years in school in Hampton. I got to open my front door and look right out across the water at the ship yard.

I would rather be in Dallas :D
I refuse to live in VB since dh will be stationed at NOB. He will have crappy hours as it is I would like for him to actually get home before the kids go to bed.
I just wish now that we hadn't sold our house there, should have just stayed lol.

at least he will be coming home in the evenings. that's a plus. dad was only home when the ship was in dry dock. Mother loved VB. that was one place she talked about all the time. make it the best you can and enjoy the little things. Just remember that some day that will all be over and these times are going to be what your kids remember. It was hard with dad being going all the time but that was some of the best times in our family.

Thanks Adam
He won't be home much. The ship is still in Mississippi until the end of the year. So he will be back and forth from VA to there. Hoping the per diem helps with debt. And then they will automatically go straight into workups and then head on a med cruise.
I told dh he should feel good about the fact that he was the detailers top pick. So wish us luck that it isn't a mistake lol.
As for making the best of Va I will and hope I will be busy with the photography to keep my mind off of the bad stuff.
Hopefully this command will be good the last one was part of the reason we disliked Norfolk so much.
Like I said I will go there with a good attitude I just hope it stays lol.
Thanks again all

Breezy

The difference between an ORDEAL and an ADVENTURE is ATTITUDE.

Have a positive attitude and you can turn bad into good and sad into happy.
Easier said than done, but it CAN be done.

I've lived in Va. It has its challenges for sure, but can be a very beautiful place to live.
Concentrate on your photography, and get into the local photo community.

As a Navy wife you may have an in with all the "spur of the moment" weddings that happen. This might be a marketing strategy for you.

Breezy....I want to echo Tom's advice. It is all in your attitude.

Being an Army brat, we lived in some pretty crappy places (won't name them as to avoid offending anyone). However, we all (mom, me and my two brothers) did our best to have a positive attitude.

I wish you and your family the best of luck. Remember, there are worse places you could be going. I know...I've lived in those places.

Thanks Tom and Mike. Yeah we could be stuck in Corpus lol. Wait I can't laugh about that yet the house hasn't sold lol.
I will be good, just hope family doesn't decide to just pop in unannounced lol. Hence the reason I am looking at Base housing. It was so nice in Charleston when they had to let us know they were coming so that they could get on the base.
I appreciate all of the advice. Still trying to get housing to tell me if they will allow a photography business in the housing or not though. Here they said it was a case by case thing. VA hasn't returned any calls yet.

Hey Breezy,
Not sure why you hate Va and all but maybe you lived here longer than I did. This is my second time living here and I think the best part I like about it SO FAR is the fact I get to see All 4 Seasons 4 a change.

Since you won't be to far being in Norfolk and all maybe we could hook up once you get here and go shooting or something.

Richmond is only about 1 or so away and I would love to come down to Va Beach for "ANY REASONS" :)

Anyway you can keep in touch with me @ stephen@stephengibsonphotography if you wish to.

And good luck with the Move at least the Military is paying for yours, we had to out of our Pocket even though THEY WANTED AND NEEDED me here..... Go Figure Corporate America

Hey Stephen I will definately keep in touch :D
The seasons are actually something we miss/missed. I will enjoy that for sure. There are tons more things to see and do there than here. I didn't get to spend nearly enough time in DC the last time so I will definately do more of that this time :D
With or without dh lol.
We disliked it the most last time just cause dh had a horrible command. I am praying this one is much better.
As for Richmond I am sure we can meet up as our family is down in NC so I will be back and forth some since most won't "drop in" to see us lol. thankfully.

I hope dh's command will be all the detailer promised. I really liked VA the times I have lived there. There is SO much history at your fingertips. DC is amazing for it's museums and monuments. There are battlefields to visit, colonial homes of our founding fathers to walk through. A job is a job. They all have good and bad aspects. Latch onto the good ones and forget about the bad ones.
Look on the really bright side, he could have enlisted in the Army or Marines instead of the Navy and be stuck in some sandbox in the Middle East with high velocity lead fragments whizzing by his head. Count your blessings for past good choices and hope this turns out to be one of those. Best of luck. Enjoy the good, ignore the bad and look forward to civilian days ahead.

Thanks Ray.
As for the sandbox comment. He was there twice with his previous precom lol. That is the "new" Navy :D
But yeah I am now doing my research for the business part and looking at what I need to do to get the kids back into public school.
But just found out dh leaves much sooner than expected :( We were hoping I would get to leave first. Man this is all happening so quickly. But we have several friends still there from SD, here and when we were in Norfolk so atleast I will know some people. :D
Its all good I am much better about it now.
Thanks again all

On a lighter note: drive 30 mins south & you're in a different state. Drive 2 hrs north & you're in a different state. Try that in Corpus....
