some people have NERVE - - 02-04-2008, 10:39 AM

some of you folks may recall - back in november/december last year - i had been doing some wedding edits for a lady in maryland. we went back and forth, b&f over colors, finally got our screens matching - she said the photos looked great! (i have the emails).

so first week of december, i sent an email inquiring on the payment which had not been made, goods delivered of course - she replied back to me - the photos were horrible - she had to compensate the bride because of late photos, and was going to have to have someone come in and re-work all the images i had done.

you might say i was flabergasted...which i was - got po'd and told her our business was finished - and also said i didn't understand how the images could be great one minute and suck so bad the next. anyway...didn't hear from her again - and she didn't pay either.

so saturday..i'm enjoying life - and i get this email - and it reads like a reply to my last email from her on the 7th of december. asking if i still had the images - i replied - of course i do, why do you ask? to which she replied - because the ones you sent me were 72dpi - which is why they look bad - so if you can just ftp the 300 dpi ones, that would be great.

DOES THIS WOMAN THINK I FELL OF THE TEXAS TURNIP TRUCK? she insults me - she doesn't pay me...and she thinks i'm going to ftp the images? and not only did she not pay me for 1 wedding, but 2~!

rant over

janet

Tell her sure, you will do it, when you see money for the 2 weddings:) Woman sounds wonky to me, be careful and sorry your having to deal with that.

I think she probably tried to have someone else do something and couldn't find anyone to do a better job with her sorry photos than you did!!!! Too bad for here!! Guess the check will have to wait to clear before she gets her photos!!

I am pretty sure that me being the SOB that I am, that I would copy all of the emails that I had from her saying that she was happy, into one single email when I replied to her.

Also included in that email would be payment in full for all services, before I even went to look for the images, or confirmed that I did have them. Further, I would tell her that she has two weeks to get me payment or all work that I have done will be discarded.

any future work would be paid in full in advance.

That's what I would be thinking that I would want to do, now whether I actually went through with it would depend soley upon whether I was having a bad day or not. But I would definitely ask for the money.

Exactly! AND I wouldn't FTP then until the check is in the bank and cleared!

Well, you did it for free the first time. Why would she not expect it again? NO WORK GOES OUT THE DOOR UNPAID! If it does, consider it a gift.

Otherwise, tell her she must pay the first invoice, plus the additional for hi res file, before you send them.

my email to her this evening - along with an invoice for over $600 in processing and late fees.
Heather,

I would like to offer the following for your review.

Your email: These look great! Send 'em away! :)

Your email: Sorry, I haven't yet. I'm still in the process of re-doing borgois (about 3/4 of the images needed re-adjustment) and haven't started tulley yet. I have someone coming to my office tomorrow to do the adjustments/ordering of tulley. I've already had to promise compensation to both brides because their photos are so late.

Janet email: Heather – I really don't understand why you are adjusting them. You said, and I have emails – that they looked wonderful

Your email: I doubt you do, but do you still have the files on your computer from tulley? I realized the main reason they looked OK on the web viewer but horrible when I put them on my hard drive... the ones you sent me were 72 res (instead of the usual 300). When I got them to a reasonable size, they looked horrible.

Your email: Until I realized this error (which probably explains to a large degree why the tulley images looked Ok on the web, but terrible when I viewed the files you sent).

Now, had the previous not occurred and you had been able to identify this problem at the time the disks were delivered, a corrected dpi disk COULD have been sent out without problems. Without hearing from you for over 2 weeks after the delivery of the images – I had to email an inquiry – and well, you see what you sent me. You simply give me an explanation that the images were so horrible they could not have been used. I do offer a guarantee that you will be happy with the work that i do, or you do not have to pay. You opted for that option, instead of figuring out what the problem was. I accepted that and moved on.

Instead of doing this – you basically insulted my processing. Subsequently, you offer no apology or explanation OF the error at all, and just expect that I will upload these images to you? I worked incredibly hard to get the images to your liking, they look wonderful, and I have several photography forum responses stating so as well. I went above what would have been usual and customary. We had even discussed this several times during phone conversations.

Bottom line is you did not pay for the images the first time, and you will receive no images until that has been rectified.

Janet Grey
i added a 50 late fee - and a 50 upload fee so i don't really expect that i'll hear back from her again.

i feel so much better...

Remind me again why you turned over the images without payment first? Did you have a written contract? Just curious...I can't remember from the older thread.

Good luck with this... I assume this will be your last dealings with her.

Whether she pays you or not it would be the last time I'd do business with her. I have a feeling this is the way she always does business. I'm sure she is one of those people that thinks life is really hard and "everyone else" are idiots.

She should just do the work herself!

yah- she sent me a very indignant email - saying i never said anything about late fees, upload fees, etc - and it was my mistake on the dpi - which it was...but here's a little secret...she's such an idiot. looking at the images in photoshop at 72 dpi - the size was humongous - something like 52.something inches by whatever. if you resampled at 300dpi it brought them down to the correct size of 12x8.

my response to her after her email:
Heather, what you failed to realize – is our business was over the day you said the images sucked. They did not – and I’ll put my processing up against your crappy shooting anyday. Honestly – anyone who would shoot a wedding at an 80th of a second – all the way through – obviously doesn’t know what they are doing – and no amount of processing will help that.

I really hope the complaint I will be filing about you – to the WPPI and the rest of the resources of yours listed on your site will find it’s way to you. Don’t bother returning an email either.
i had nothing to lose - and it brought a little ray of joy to my otherwise boring day.
