at 29 weeks - 2lbs, 12 oz - and so far everything looks good. she was hospitalized january 2, and has been flat on her back for a month now.

i'm just so excited i thought i'd share - this was her 5th attempt to have a child - all previous pregnancies ended in miscarriage.

you'll all be seeing photos soon!

Hey Janet...I'm a NICU nurse up here in OKC. It's gonna be a long road but the kid's got a lotta good stuff going for him being 29 weeks and almost 3 lbs-we get many 24 weekers that are barely a pound. It's amazing to see how much better a 29 weeker can do than even a 28 weeker! Feedings and respiratory stuff will most likely be a struggle but tell them to take it a day at a time and they'll do great! It will be two steps forward, one step back the whole way! My thoughts and prayers are with them!

Nicely said amanda,

I am starting nursing this summer... my twins were in the NICU... they were not premie, but one REFUSED to eat and the other had apnea... but spending 11 days for hours at a time I would get to see the progress of the other babies in there... as amanda said 2 fwd and 1 back...

cant wait to see pics and my prayers are with you and the family

hi all - thanks for all the responses - they did have an episode of 'fast breathing' last night - but not apnea. they removed the intubation - things are looking up. i'm just so happy for these two people - they are some of the most giving, loving people i have ever had the privelege to know - and what they've gone through to get here has been amazing.

thanks for all the good wishes...

renae - they are both at hermann - (she was in for 5 weeks prior to birth)

Yay...good news already! The quicker they get them extubated the less chance of them getting an infection from being intubated-but only if they can tolerate it. I'm sure he is on some kind of respiratory support to help him out. I should have warned you too in my post Janet that there is a "honeymoon" period that most premies go through where they do really really good and then after about a week to ten days they will backtrack. Hopefully this little guy is one of the few that honeymoon the whole time Still in my prayers!!
