iPhone Ringtone Help - 02-09-2008, 10:55 AM

My nephew is a high school football coach for the Dawson Eagles. I have a .mp3 file of an eagle screeching sound that I can convert to a wav, mid or other extensions on my PC.

I wanted to make a ringtone for his phone since I have one for my Blackberry, but he has an iPhone. I don't know anything about iPhones or Macs.

Is it possible that I can convert the mp3 file using my PC into something that we can then download to his iPhone?

Any help would be much appreciated.

There is no way to convert your own MP3s to ringtones on the iPhone in an Apple-sanctioned way... you can only get custom ring tones the Apple way by purchasing them via iTunes.

That said, I use a product called iPhoneRingToneMaker... works like a champ: http://www.efksoft.com/products/ipho...aker/index.htm

from what I have read there is more than one way to make an iphone ring tone with out having to do it apples way

I think one of them simply involves change the file extension to something, and there are free programs that can do it.

Brad and James, Thanks for the help. I looked at the iPhoneringtonemaker and I think that's the way I'll go.

If you use a mac, you can just drop the mp3 into garage band and set it to loop and save it as a ringtone and it will automatically put it in the ringtone category in itunes and you can just update your iphone and it will be on there

All you have to do is rename the aac audio file to m4r, import it into itunes and sync. One limitation is that the audio file must be 30 seconds or less.
