Question Income tax prob - 02-09-2008, 07:32 PM

any suggestions would help!!!

I did taxes on out tax cut program and we did not E-file last year so there was not electronic pin for us to electronically SIGN... so I printed out put out bank info in there so they could direct deposit!!!...

well I signed where I was supposed to and told hubby to sign it... he did and put it in the envelope and sealed it... I put stamps on it and we mailed it out this after noon!!!

We just got home and I sat down to pull some photos off the camera and guess what is sitting here on the table...

THATS right the top page page of the 14 pages of tax paperwork... the one that says our names and SS# so what should I do??? do I reprint them all and RESEND it... just send this one page in... call them... what??? HELP!!!

CALL, as weird as it may seem, the IRS has helped me out in the past. Your return may still be slowed, but it will get the answer from the ones that know.

I agree your best bet is to call. Don't be intimidated. They are really helpful. ALWAYS send stuff to IRS Certified.

Unsolicited Plug
If you are self-employed you should be using an accountant. I am now a believer in Accountants. Every year my accountant saves me hundreds more than what he charges for his services. EVERY YEAR. And behind his back I was using the box software to check him for the first 4 or 5. He beat me by hundreds of dollars EVERY YEAR. Now he is my friend and I don't pay him anymore, he gets his fees in photographs.

Man it is great to own your own business!

ha, the 1009 was from the night job I was a contracted worker... I was thinking I was going to just call them and tell them what happened... see what they say to do ...

after I posted this and thought about it I was thinking just print it all out again and remail the whole thing... but I would be afraid that it would be double processed not good!!!

then I thought I will just mail that one paper in with a note... nope that would still be bad... cause they may never find the other parts!

so i will just call and see what they want me to do, mail that one paper in ATTN: or to file the amendment

Reprint and resend priority mail

Chances are that when they receive your erroneous return it will be put in a cue with the reset of the people who screwed up. By the time they figure it out, your return will have already been processed.

Thinking ,....thinking........good idea!!!

Holly, the other thing you could do, is resend the whole thing and make sure you put a note in there about what happened..so you be sure not to duplicate. I've never had to call, but I'm thinking the phone lines have to have a long wait....then again I've been wrong....once.

Don't feel bad.. - 02-13-2008, 05:47 AM

Don't feel bad. We have a CPA do ours every year. My wife went up and picked the returns up from him last year. He put them in a white envelope with the Internal Revenue Service and their address on the front. My wife brought me the forms, I signed them, she signed them and she put them back in the envelope. She then sealed the envelope and dropped it off on her way to work. When she came home, she tells me, "Ya know what, I forgot to put postage on that envelope" I tell her, "no big deal, they USPS will just send it back to us with an insuff. postage." The she tells me that she didn't put a return address on the envelope. After some calling to the USPS and IRS, I find out that the USPS would just throw it in a trash bin and we'd have to do it all over again. The thought of my tax/business info w/SS#'s laying around in some bin really irked me for a while. I'll be taking care of taxes this year.
