Costco has a Nuvi 360 for sale with a $100 discount ... considering purchasing for my wife (who has to do lot of house visits in Dallas, Collin, and some Tarrant county) ... doing some social work ... she's getting to be an expert at getting lost, so want to try to help ease her frustrations a little ... anyone have any comments or suggestions on these devices ? One thing she would like as a feature, would be to "redirect" her to get back on track should she take a wrong turn, etc.
Having Blue-tooth phone access or media options are not a concern. Srictly a NAV tool.
Thanks for any thoughts on this.

I haven't used it, but it looks like a good deal. I had a different model of Nuvi, and liked it, but it didn't speak the street names. I now know I really want that feature.
(Which this one seems to have.) Make sure to a GPS that says the street names!
I just may head over to costco myself...

I have the basic Nuvi 200. It doesn't say the street names, and I don't want it too. She talks too much as it is.
But, I think it is terrific. I wouldn't bet my life that the directions are the shortest, etc. but it sure will get you where you want to go. It DOES give you revised directions when you veer off course.
If you have the address you want to go, you type it onto the touch screen, and press go , and follow the turn by turn directions. It also has a lot of other features that are really cool. It even plays photos from a card.
You'd better buy two because once you see what it does, you'll want your own.

I have the one Tom has and agree with everything he said. We borrowed on to go to Baytown, Anahuac and had plenty of chances to get lost but this thing kept us on course. Even if you get off the path it will recalculate and get you where you need to go. As soon as we got back I ordered one from New Egg. Have trouble reading street signs at dark? This solves that too. I don't know what else the 360 does but the 200 did enough for us.

Randy - 2 things to help you out:
1 - www.gpsreview.net - good site for reviews and comparisons
2 - I'm not trying to scare you or anything but everyone needs to know, the number one thing thieves are stealing from cars is not your stereo or cds or even your cell phone. It is iPODS and GPS devices! A woman at work had her car broken into last night and what did they steal - her GPS. I always hide or take mine with me as a precaution. Look at RadioShack, they have some great deals on GPS.

Definately take it out. At the least put it where it can't be seen. This is where I got mine and right now you can get another $10 off with this promo code EMCACBCBG. Free shipping too.

I had the Nuvi 350 and it was great until it was stolen. It was out of sight but when my van was broken into it was taken along with many other items.
I now have the Nuvi 660 and it is also great. I would not be without it.
Good Luck!

It DOES give you revised directions when you veer off course. | I have a Nuvi 200 also. Not only will it give you revised directions if you get off-course, but if you want to take a different route, you can hit the "detour" button and it will give you a new course based on the street you're on. It was a nice feature to have when I was heading east on 121 from Frisco and traffic was crawling. I just turned at the next light and hit detour and it took me where I wanted to go from there. I love mine.
edit: on the subject of navigation, anybody done any geo-caching with theirs?

We bought the 650 model on Black Friday at Fry's. It was on sale for $299. Looks like the prices have dropped to just about that now. http://gpstracklog.typepad.com/gps_t..._nuvi_650.html
We really like it. My wife found it easy to use and it really was for her, but I have borrowed it a time or two. Last week, I had to shoot a soccer tournament that had fields in two different locations. I looked up the school addresses ahead of time and saved the locations in my favorites. That way all I had to do was tell it to go to the first stop and I was off to the races.
I also like the way it pronounces the street names to. Especially helpfull at night or with hard to see signs.

Thanks everybody for your thoughts on this. Sorry for my slow response, I'm out in Santa Clara, Calif. on biz and can't get to the internet very easily ... too many corporate firewalls, etc. and my hotel wants to charge $9 per day for internet access on top of the $175.00 per night room rate .... jeeesh. Something weird going on here, all the hotels have bumped their rates to close to $200. a night ... of course I could stay at a $50.00 per night no-tell-motel and get free internet access and free breakfast, sorry guys just a little last minute gripe.

I researched the lower end (below $400) auto GPS units for months, and bought the TomTom One XL.
I REALLY like it. It talks, or not. It shows where I'm at, what street I'm on, compass direction, etc...Or not, if I don't want it to.
It shows 3d/2d/topo mapping...Or not, if I don't want it to.
I paid $299 (I think) for it at Fry's just after the first of the year.

Along with all the great info you already have....I have the 350 also and it does a great job with the exception of new areas (I work for a homebuilder and some of our new locations don't have street names, but once I find them, I can save them as GPS coordinates and alweays get back to them. If this model doesn't have it, you might want to get the live traffic module that will give you alternate routes when you get stuck | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
