Ordering prints? - 02-13-2008, 05:01 PM

Any recommendations on where to order prints from? I just recently ordered some prints from Kodak, and the shipping and such has left me with a bad taste. I usually never make prints, but I figured since my girlfriend likes my photos ill frame a few for her. Any help would greatly appreciated. Thanks y'all!

Edit...forgot to mention this, but price is somewhat of an issue as well, cheaper would be better, but does that mean quality goes down as well?

If you or anyone you know is a member of Costco, you might try there. I've used them and they do a pretty decent job for a good price.

I just looked and see that Costco doesn't have a store in Lubbock, but they do ship for a reasonable price.

Another option is Sam's club. I know there is one in Lubbock--I bought a stereo there in 1986 (it still works, by the way).

would Sam's be a valid equivalent? because I'm thinking 8x10's, and some B&W, and I hear you need to print B&W photos on B&W paper.

I have had great results from MPIX.com on all my 8x10, 11x14, and 16x20 prints.

I use WHCC as my lab. an 8 x 10 is $2.10. I know a lot of ppl use Millers as well.
I've never had an issue with WHCC. I order Monday and it's at my door Wednesday :) Well, except during Christmas season :) AND I get a blow pop or 2 in every package :)

MPIX is the consumer division of Millers. When you put an MPIX print next to a 1-hour printer, they make the cheap-O place look like crap. Not kidding. Its only a couple pennies more and shipping is a flat $4.95 no matter how much (or how big) your order.

Another vote for MPIX.... and their digital B/W paper is really awesome. A silky matte that really shows off the gradient tones of a good b/w image.

The Walgreen's on the corner of 50th and Slide, has some very knowledgeable people working there, and they do a good job on the prints (Lauren, specifically). when you go in though, tell them to turn off the auto image correction, or else there is a chance that your order will not come out like you were expecting.

For the everyday 4x6 print, I had been using the local WalMart where they knew to turn off all the auto-stuff when my orders came thru.

Unfortunately, the volume in the store wasn't sufficient and they pulled the lab.....so...

I have used a nearby Walgreens but they only use glossy paper which I hate for simple prints. I am in the process or "training" the folks there to turn off the auto fix. But the glossy paper is a real drag.

However, for larger prints or ones i sell, MPix is absolutely, positively the cream of the crop. I recently received my 1st order of their metallic prints (8x10 and 8x12).

I'm still in awe....

Do yourself a HUGE favor and at least TRY them. Altho the s+h favors larger orders.
