missing fingerprints - 02-14-2008, 06:09 PM

I recently had to get my fingerprints taken once again. After completion the agent looked at my prints and said let me see your left hand. He asked me what I did for a living and stated you have no fingerprints on your left hand, they have been rubbed off. He compared my prints to an older set I had completed; he said "see there are some here on older set but they are gone on your newer card". Got to thinking afterward and the only reason I can think the reason my fingerprints on left hand are gone is because of my camera. Has anyone else run into this problem?

could be all kinds of reasons for it, nut I doubt takign pics would erase all your prints on just one hand, especially the left.

Do you do darkroom stuff?

I was thinking maybe the rubber grip on my camera and always holding it mainily with my left hand. plus the d2x is not a light piece of equipment especially with a 70-200 vr lens. I was not thinking taking pictures magicaly makes fingerprints disapear, just the friction of holding the camera and its movements

Unless there's something completely different going on, I really doubt that mere camera friction would do it: I mean, I'll handle a camera, big chunks of steel, wood, etc. etc., using hand tools all day, burning my hands too dang often, get diesel and ag chemicals on them from time to time, etc. etc. etc., and I've still got fingerprints. I really think there's got to be something else going on.

Saw an article recently about a medical Dr. being convicted and sent to jail for removing people's fingerprints - I think he was in Michigan.

Kendall,

I kind of doubt that the camera is the culprit, although I guess it's possible. The only time I have lost some of my fingerprints was when I accidentally used too much of caustic soda into a cleaning solution we were using on the farm and wasn't careful enough with the rubber gloves. My fingers were slippery for a few days<g> Some cleaning solutions can etch the fingerprints a bit, but I'd think you'd notice if they got some worn off that they don't show up when fingerprinting...

Best regards,

As a former shoulder mount video shooter, I always find it interesting when people think a 70-200 and body are heavy... I am just glad I didn't go the other way... Moving from SLR to full-size video would be quite a shocker.. LOL

Having said that, I am also doubting that is the culprit...Unless you shoot A LOT!!!!!

But who knows... Interesting dilemma... Do you use your left hand for any other friction based activity? Uh.. Nevermind..I didn't ask that..
