A guy question, a dilemma - 02-16-2008, 06:06 PM

why, oh why do women need so many different pairs of shoes? I mean whats wrong with a brown pair, a black pair, a pair of tennis shoes, and maybe one or two others. Can any guy explain that to me?

Simple answer - great shoes make any woman feel beautiful and sexy. So why not have lots of them?

Not in my house. Maybe that's why she has so many... her self image is so twisted she can't even find a pair of shoes that makes her feel beautiful. But I digress...

I don't have that many shoes.
Black doc martens, purple doc martens, brown knee highs, black trainers, grey trainers, two pairs of nice dress shoes (both black).

Having got serious back issues I can't wear heels for longer than 10-20 minutes, and having size 11 feet (the joys of being so freaking tall), I can't find many nice flat looking shoes that don't cost a fortune.

So I'm in the minority.

I am not one of those women. I have what may look like a lot, but most are old and the wrong size (I don't know why I still have them, that's a whole other issue). Of the shoes I wear the most, I have a black pair of sneakers, brown Sketchers, pink Crocs, black Crocs and brown loafers. That's it! I have 3 kids, so it's all about comfort and what's easiest to get on!

No answer and I don't even want to think about it as long as HER shoes stay on HER side of the closet.
On the other hand, a new pair or three show up and being both forgetful AND stupid, I say "but don't you already have some of those just like that?" And she says... "no, these are different."
"But they look just like the other ones" say I. "THEY'RE NOT THE SAME!" says she...
And being that I'm not always stupid, I quickly change the subject...

I have a friend who has>1 dozen pairs of hunting boots. My wife had a shoe fetish when we married, but it went away for years, and has just re-surfaced. She only buys when they are way on sale, like $90 shoes for <$20.

Given the durability of their shoes, they need that many pairs to get by.

I never say such stupid things as ,"You don't need..." "Why do you want..." "Don't you already have..." Such comments seem to have a basis in reason, but the truth is, they do not.

For one thing, I learned early on that brilliant thoughts, concepts, etc., which sound perfectly logical INSIDE the mind, actually undergo a molecular change, as they enter the atmosphere.

It's like the slow motion wrecks in the movies. You know, you see it all unravelling right in front of you, but you can't stop it, you can't get out of the way. Same thing. You say it, then you actually see the words taking shape, much like an arrow, as they speed to her ears.

Half way there, at most, it is as if scales fall off your eyes, and you see the remark for what it really is, an act of self destruction. I mean, hey, even those fancy schmancy computers in the movies know to not destroy themselves.

But, that arrow is flying at a higher rate than your hands can grasp. BAM! It goes straight in, hitting her "It's time to kill him" button.

No, just tell her a lady can't have too many shoes. And...AND... Tell her they all make her butt look smaller.

OTOH, I don't like being asked/told anything when I am buying guns and camera equipment. Oh, as for guns, see the above remarks. Keep all firearms under lock. Do not teach her how to shoot (though it comes naturally to a woman) , or reload.

It's the Mars/Venus thing but if I was smart enough to know then I would also know where the rainbow ended and prioritize the pot of gold that awaiteth. Be of good cheer that thou are not a vanquished divorcee like me.
