What I get most from his images (more so in the videos) is the commitment he has to photography and being ready to record history whatever that may be. He did a great job recording 9-11. He is more committed to photography than to his safety.

I know what he means when he says to being totally focused in the work and not knowing what that work is. I call that "being in the zone".

I don't think it has anything to do with equipment (using a film camera). It has more to do with being there and capturing whatever presents itself. And it isn't so much luck but being prepared and ready when the moment happens, whatever that moment may be.

Am I making sense?

I find that this color street photography doesn't have the same impact to me, that black and white does. While I see the interest and humor in these, they don't have the same artistic punch as a Winogrand, say. Maybe I've just seen so much b&w street photography over the years that I can't make the transition?
