Well, it looks like our Navy hit their target last night. I've been kind of following this story off and on over the past week or two and was amused at the reaction of China and Russia over our plans. They were claiming that this was really an ASAT test.
I think they were right. And I think we were right to do it.
Now, of course, China wants us to share all the data on the test. My response to such a request would be very simple.
"No."
Funny thing is that within the last year or two the Chinese destroyed a satellite in orbit that left a ton of debris up there, and they felt that they were within their rights to do so. Now that we've destroyed a satellite (that will leave little or no debris in orbit) they get all bent out of shape. Good grief! I hope that they got the message from last night's test loud and clear.

Their government, however, can take a flying leap.

I care about people but I also care about my wallet and I kinda wish the shuttle would have recovered it for repairs and reuse. | | | |

Recovery wasn't the intent. In fact, IMNSHO, neither was safety. Making a statement to certain countries was the point.

This is just a logical progression of the next step of weaponry for the Us in particular and mankind in a general sense. It's something the Russians are working on achieving, the Chinese to a lesser degree of success have done and more than likely other countries will aspire to do at some future time. Ha ha, leave it to us to get it right. After 30 years of off and on work, $50,000K toilet stool tops, hammers, etc., we have finally entered the star wars era. GO USA!!!
PS....Would have been wonderful to get a nice image or series of images of the actual impact.

About the toilet seat, it cost was high because it was built to rigid spec's for Mil. use.
Also the hammer and I would think you could bend the rules and go to Home depot but
they take their stuff seriously and as far as I know right now only Special forces can procure outside of normal avenues.
I would like to reashure you that as a Defense contractor employee I do my best to combat waste whenever possible. I pick up expensive hardware dropped on the floor
because every penny counts. Sadly I am not there today so we will lose a little.
Edit. In all honesty I should say I am employed by a D C.
