I have been ready for an equipment upgrade for a while. I am a Nikon shooter. With the introduction of the new DSLR's last year came the initial excitement of the new features and functions available, the internal rationalization of which outrageous new model to select and then the mad rush of research as to whether I should try to buy now or wait for the next uber generation of whiz bang tools.
After making the decision to go for the D3...and getting the appropriate finances in place...I decided to pull the trigger last Monday (2/18). I wanted to try and support the local sponsors - they all basically told me that this fine piece of engineering was backordered until the second Tuesday past Hell freezing over. Then I tried all of the larger reputable online dealers/resellers - they were only slightly more helpful, but still no joy. I tried e-bay and their assorted resellers, but nobody there gave me a warm fuzzy feeling, and they were all trying to sell their wares above list...which I refuse to support.
So then I decided to start surfing through some of the sites I regularly lurk at, as well as a few like this one that I post in semi-regularly. The long and short of it is that I got pointed to a smaller online operation that operates out of the Pacific Northwest - They told me that they were expecting one this Friday (today), and that they had nobody on the waiting list, and that they could probably have it to me by early next week. I just got the e-mail notification from UPS that my new camera will be here on Monday, 2/25/08.
Moral of this story: Don't let perceived short supply stop you from acquiring what you want...and take a look at all channels that this electronic world we live in gives you access to!
Life has been really good to me so far. Have a nice weekend!
