Hi, what do you guys do with your dogs when you're at work? I had a helper that would take him for a short walk during the day, but now she bailed out on me. I think Dapper can handle being out on his own, but I guess I'll find out soon. He is crate trained, but Dapper has figured out how to unlatch his crate from the inside .

i normally wrap mine in duct tape and hang them up for the cats to play with while i am at work. it keeps all of them out of trouble....ok kidding, i got a 10x10 kennel and put it in the shade with a small warm dog house if it is cold and you can keep protect the cord i sometimes put the dog house on a reptile heater to keep it warm (reptile heater won't get very hot)

My dog has full run of my apt. I usually find him on the bed, laying on his back with a fan blowing on him. Also has window access to be able to watch stuff outside. I leave toys and all out also. But of course, I work less then 1.5 miles from home, so I can always come check on him.

baby gates and close em in the kitchen .. they all play nice all day and any accidents are a easy cleanup.

We keep all 3 in the bedroom because they feel safer in a smaller space rather than the whole house. They are in there from about 8am to 6pm. On weekends when we are not gone for that long, we let them have full run of the house.

when i lived in an apartment they had run of the apartment. . . once under extreme circumstances I was gone for 23.5 hours. . . the minute I opened the apartment door he shot down the stairs and relieved himself! THAT'S AN AWESOME DOG!

Now I have a backyard, they hang out there during the day and inside when we're home.

You guys are making me feel better. I give Dapper LOTS of attention before and after work, so maybe I'm worrying too much.

My dog surfs Flickr while I'm at work, when he isn't napping on the leather couch.

PetsMart, et al, have a folding metal fence that extends to ~16' that we use to block off key areas while Molly is Home Alone. Folded it is about 4' tall x 4' wide and only about 3" thick. It free-stands is set up accordion style.

I have 2 active dogs - crate trained for daytime.
If we are able, we try not to be away for more than 8-10 hrs though.

one active dog crate trained and never have had an accident in the crate since he was 10 wks old
EXCEPT for the time he ate a 4 lb pot roast right out of the crock pot, needless to say it kind of messed up his digestive tract lol he even moved the vegatables off the top to get to the good stuff, I was home all day today with a gout attack and he kept lookin at me like WHY ARE YOU HERE, he stayed in his crate with the door open all day lol

Well, our Lexie is very lucky Yorkie. My mother in law comes over every day and stays with her. She is at the house at 8:00am and does not leave until my husband or I get home. Usually we are here by 3:30pm at the latest. They play, eat, and nap all day! We find toys and treats all over the house! But that's OK! The front door is always open so Lexie can look out when she wants too! NO MATTER WHAT THE WEATHER IS LIKE!! Hot or cold, that door is OPEN!! My MIL hand feeds Lexie!! I don't, but she will tell me how she does it just in case I decide to. If we have to go out some nights, well she is here before we leave. AND she gets very angry if we leave Lexie home alone for over 2 hours! Yep, I would say we are all spoiled!! But they are good for each other.

Ours are crate trained and stay in them at nite, but as long as it's not too hot or too cold - they play in the backyard all day. I put them out when I'm about to leave in the morning, and let them in when I get home. My b/f is a fireman and is off and at home 3 days out of the work week, so they come in and out when he is here.

Two dogs, three cats all have the run of the house while I'm at work. The dogs get to go out when I get home and I try to run them everyday, but it depends on weather and such. They do fine alone all day.
