we are majorly bummed here -

almost 2 weeks ago - my daughter was doing a vault - and her arm shot pain through her -
the mri showed a partial tear of the ligament in her elbow. we are now waiting on a call from the doctor - probably tomorrow - to let us know how bad the tear is and if it will require surgery or not.

just sharing some angst...

It's always difficult when you can't be there with them. I've been there, so I understand exactly what you are going thru.

my prayers are for your peace, Janet.

We can do a group hug tomorrow, try to come if you can. You aren't alone.

yeah hang in there - tough to hear about the injury and how it affects your daughters sport

you may able to just rehab the arm rather than go for surgery ... of course this depends on how the ligament is torn, but you can consider as an option - depending on your goals and overall outlook

best of luck!

thanks all - she's really upset at the moment, she lives for gymnastics - and this could put her out for 6 months or more...(wouldn't be the first time) - but add to this - being part of a team - which is killing her as well...

her coach is phenomenal though - my oldest daughter and i had already made our reservations to north carolina for this weekend, and usually they dont' travel injured gymnasts - but since i had done all those photos and posters, they said they would bring her along anyway - how awesome is that? she'll get some major family love and support face to face instead of face to SKYPE - LOL

Sorry to hear that... Hope she heals quickly and completely.

I cringe every once in a while when my daughters are competing, but it's part of the game(s). We can't surround them in bubble wrap (can we?)...

i cringe every week - funny - after watching two other girls take nasty falls (no injury thank goodness) we had discussed this - parents watching meets in the internet - watching their kid go whack...and then what? from that question, they put into place a system if the gymnast was able to call themselves, they would - otherwise you would get a call from the trainer DURING the meet to let you know what was going on. thank goodness the call was from my daughter.

scott - what do your daughters compete?

Tell D I hope she heals quickly! These injuries are so tough for a gymnast because they can't do anything! a knee or leg injury you can still work bars. You are right about the team atmosphere that is so different from club. I hope she not only heals physically but doesn't tax herself too much emotionally too!

My 9 year old plays academy soccer. We have one more year until the big jump to select where it really gets serious. The little one (6), has gone through karate, soccer, and now gymnastics. I don't worry much about her yet, but she's the one who is going to get hurt. She has NO fear whatsoever. Gee, I wonder where she gets that from?

Sorry to hear of your daughter's injury. Give her a hug from all of us.
I know how she feels. Just had a tear in the labrum of my shoulder fixed three weeks ago. It is improving daily but it is not a fast thing. Dr. say's it is 4-6months recovery after surgury. But hopefully I will be pain free after that.
