I saw this posted on a different forum and thought I would share. I know people use these but I wouldn't want to carry one around.

Large format photographers are a different breed.

I know I've seen larger light boxes set up in a Airplane hanger, but how do you use print paper as a light sensitive paper? and if so then are the chemicals he's using to coat the paper being held with.....never mind I just figured out what kinda of print paper he's using. :D....probably a matt finish paper that's similar to heavy weight stock paper.

Well I'd imagine it could be similar to the Polaroid setup that Tim Mantoani used to shoot numerous Pulitzer prize winning photographers...

Thanks...seeing The "Z-man" with that huge Polaroid camera makes me want to try large format on that scale.

Well yeah... but that dude has a freaking wagon. All you need at that point is a couple of sled dogs and you're set.

He's using photographic paper just like is used in the darkroom to make prints from negatives or slides. He then processes the paper just like he would a print. He's most likely using direct positive paper - that is: paper used to print directly from slides - so that he has a positive print.

BTW - there is still black and white film available in that size.

I regulary work with a photographer that shoots a 12x20 - "only" half the size of the camera in the OP. http://www.matthewmagruder.com/
