Anyone use FTP - 02-29-2008, 06:40 AM

I need a way to upload some full jpg to my ftp site and I know how to do that via cute ftp, but to retrieve the file on the other end is tricky. If I set up a folder with the folder IE will return with a page not found.

Can anyone assist?

IE 6 and IE 7 have a 'built-in' FTP.

Here's a link with the info
http://www.phatz.com/ftp-in-ie7.php

Why not use the same program for downloading the files?

Because I am uploading the files to my FTP for someone else to
download. Thanks for the suggestion.

ftp://www.server-name.com/path/to/file.jpg

Should get the job done as long as the ftp server accepts anonymous connections. If you want to use a username and password, the format is:
ftp://username:password@www.server-name.com/path/to/file.jpg

I use one that is an add on to Firefox, works great too. It is called FireFTP. Although I seldom download with it, normally I am uploading files.

I can upload the files just fine. The problem that I have is generating a
Ftp:// FTP.a2rob.net so. That the recipient can D/L the files.

for the love of god, don't use a browser. especially IE for FTP. Use a program made for it.

If you're a mac user, try Cyberduck
http://cyberduck.ch/

PC user try Filezilla
http://filezilla-project.org/

I think they make filezilla for mac too, But I prefer cyberduck. Both easy to use and both free. Downloading and uploading works like a charm.

Yea I know but most clients have the universal IE for their FTP.

Upload it and then just send them the link in an email and have them right-click and "save target as.."

I will probably just create a page on my site, upload the files
and send a link as suggested. I was thinking that FTP would be
easier and faster.

If it's a bunch of files and you're worried about it being too tedious to make the page and list every pic, just zip them up and then you will only have to worry about one download

Whenever I upload files for a client, I upload one .zip file to my server and then I email them the direct link.
They click on the link and it automatically starts downloading the file.
