We're in SA this weekend, but I decided the hoards of opening day folks would best be left to themselves. I'll wait until later in the spring, we'll be back often anyway.

We went there a few times during the "dark period", you could just feel the potential oozing from every nook and crannie. If you could tightly frame/crop, it was possible to get some nice shots even then. But it took a lot of work and wasn't nearly as much fun as it was before. It appears that it is now even better than ever.

If you go, try to find a way to contribute to the volunteers who took this on.

I must be getting old and my memory is fading. I always though the garden was designed by an Japanese man that basically took the quarry and turned it into a garden. He was interned during WWII and returned to SA to finish the garden. According to the SA parks website he was interned but never returned. They changed the name to Chinese Sunken Gardens until the 60's. I remembering this from a visit many moons ago and thought I read it off a plaque in the garden.

Here are some from Sunday with Ken:

The bridge.

The waterfall. I lugged a 4x5 here many a weekend, it looks so sad, but in two to three years, it will once again be the beautiful waterfall I spent so many hours photographing

The gardens look rather sad, but the volunteers did a wonderful job, now it just needs time to heal, grow, and get back to what it was.
