When I saw the thread title I thought maybe a golf killed a hawk during a tournament. Like, someone teed off and managed to hit a bird as it was flying through the air.

After reading the story, the golfer was most definitely in the wrong.

He's a jerk golfer wannabe stuck in the minor leagues and always will be. I think they should strap him to a tree branch and let Tiger take some shots at him with his 2-iron. And it wasn't a one-in-a-million shot like he would like everyone to believe. I heard it was about 1 in 24.

This made me spew coffee all over my keyboard.. Bwwaaaaahaaaahaaaa

I Agree....But also have to say Tiger could not have hit the Hawk ....But he has never tried that we know of and would not try!

This guy tired and DID after a few shots @ him. I do believe 1 in A Million Shot. The same if somebody fires a gun in the air and kills a person 1mile away is STILL RESPONSIBLE FOR THE ACT... As too the Jackass golfer…

If Joe Blow shoots a gun in the air and kills someone a mile away it is a tragic and stupid accident. If Marky the professional marksman aims at the person a mile a way and kills him it's murder.

Not so as a guy here in the Austin area went to jail for involuntary manslaughter for shooting his .22 in his backyard TARGET PRACTICE.. The bullet struck and killed a kid playing a few thousand feet away...Joe Blow was still Responsible for the ACT.....

Were not trying the guy for MURDER! & you DON'T have to be a professional marksman to be tried for murder. If Joe Blow aims @ someone a mile away and kills them he is subject to Murder also..

My point was Responsiblity for the act..

Maybe I should have used this example. If joe blow hits a golf ball off the tee and it slices into the woods and kills a hawk, it is a tragic accident. The hawk is dead nonetheless, but the golfer should pay a fine, but not go to jail.

If mr. pro golfer is pissed at a hawk for making noise, and hits a couple of dozen balls AT the hawk and kills it, it is murder. Huge fine, and some time in the clink.

The difference arises in the INTENT. Whether or not the chances were small of the golfer actually killing the hawk are not important. In the words of Lee Trevino after he made a hole in one. " What's the big fuss ?, it's what I was aiming at isn't it ?"

I do not see how it could be a 1 in a million shot...he hit balls at it til he hit it...

He allegedly first drove in a golf cart toward the bird, then 300 yards away, to hit balls at it. When the hawk later landed within 75 yards, Isenhour’s shots got closer until he eventually hit and killed it. The bird fell to the ground bleeding from both nostrils, witnesses told the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission

For a professional... it's not that hard. Certainly not 1-1,000,000

Here's Tiger with a low iron or wood from about 60-yards

Poor Camera

I read that earlier this week. What he did was he kept hitting golf balls in the direction of the hawk and eventually hit it. He said it was one in a million shot but it was really one in about 60 or 70. He intentionally wanted to hit the bird because it was distracting him...now he's in trouble with the law and the golf commentators will be having fun with him the next several tournaments.
