Cruise ship - Virgin Islands suggestions - 03-12-2008, 12:03 PM

In a couple of weeks, I'll be on a Western Carribbean cruise heading towards the Dominican Republic, St. Thomas and Tortolla.
Has anybody been there and can suggest where to shoot some photos?
Is there any forts or ruins or a particular beach you may have liked?
Do you think I should take my tripod or just a monopod?
*BIG question* Do you think I should take both my Canon bodies or just one? (I'm really torn about this one)
Tips, suggestions and general comments are welcomed!

thanks!

matt

Go over to Virgin Gorda and go to the Baths Nat. Park. You can walk through knee deep water through the rocks and come out at Devils Ray Beach. When I went there were other tourists there but it was not crowded at all. It was an interesting place.

Leave the tripod at home. I took mine once but I was so busy and with other groups or family members, it just was not feasible.

I would just take one body and mid range zoom for that cruise.

We also booked a private excursion with a guy that took us out on his sailboat in St. Thomas. I will see if I can find his name.

Tortolla is such a beautiful place! I don't really have any suggestions of where to shoot as I was there like 20 years ago but at the time, there wasn't a hotel one on the island. Polar opposite of St. Thomas. If you don't take a tripod, I would definitely take a monopod if you want landscapes but I always take my tripod.
