Growing up in New England and eating Corned Beef & Cabbage (New England boiled dinner it's called up there) on a regular basis, I love it!! When I smell it cooking a mile away it takes me back to the mean Irish streets of middle Mass. When we were young and playing around the neighborhood you could tell what family was having Corned beef & cabbage for dinner by the smell coming from the open windows. It did not have to be St Patricks Day, it could be just any ole Sunday afternoon! It was the only day you were not late for dinner in my area. I am just courious with all the corned beef that gets smoked into briskett around here in Texas (its the same cut of beef, just corned-salted) if you all love it or hate it ? | | | | | Sponsored Links | Premium Members do not see Google advertisements. I'm having some tomorrow and the next few days.
Corned beef is not just salted brisket. You need seasonings for the brine it is first prepared with. For one of thousands of recipes, go to http://www.foodnetwork.com/food/reci..._36271,00.html

Love it, cooked in a slow cooker with beer rather than water. Then bring on the horseradish mustard.

When I was a kid, my Dad would take me to the New York Deli on Lovers Lane and Ernie, the owner, would bring out a fresh, hot slab of corned beef and slice it thin, wrap it in white butcher's paper, and we'd take it home and eat it on fresh rye with hot mustard and hot potato salad ot the side. Oh man, that was heaven.
My Dad and Ernie grew up in South Dallas and graduated from Forrest Ave. High a long time ago.

We usually make it with new potatoes. They are small buttery/ creamy kind. Some people call them red potatoes.
