We had Mud Rain here yesterday. What the heck is a mud rain anyway other than a lot of mud and dirt on your car?

I think they just made it up. But it kinda of fits don't it?
They are talking about it on the Houston news too. We had a little of it also. Sounds like I'll have to wash my RV up in Smithville on my 10 acres. Its kinda of in that direction. | | | |

Yep we got it last night quite a bit and according to the weather person on the station last night what caused the mud rain was an overwhelming amount of dust in the air mixing with the rain. Which sounds partly true since I could see it in the clouds when the light shown toward them. | | | |

Well, it’s not the same as the yellow rain we have here……a minor rain washes the pine pollen (brilliant yellow, very fine powder) into pools and when it evaporates, a concentrated bright yellow patch remains. On the cars, you don’t notice it unless you get some misting, whereupon is leaves the yellow splotches all over. It rinses off easily and there’s no harm in it, but it does give everything a bizarre yellow tint.
We used to get the mud rain in Waco a lot, as was mentioned, the dust in West Texas was kicked up by the winds and then formed the basis for condensation that then fell as rain a bit east. It rinses off easily iirc.

Renae, you beat me too it. We walked out of the office yesterday and everybody wash astonished at the mud rain. I am from Wichits Falls, where we would get a good mud rain, not this piddly stuff, at least once a week in the spring, so I just laughed at all of them that didn't know what this was and were astonished by it. Old hat to me!!! | | | |

When I lived in Lubbock, we'd usually get the mud rain right after I washed my (black) truck. Red mud and rain ... I almost miss it.
Does beat the hail we get in north Texas this time of year! | | | |

Yep -- I have never called it a "mud rain" but I know of which you speak!
Matter of fact -- it's kinda rare around here not to have the rain just a little bit gritty with the dirt.
Kinda like making snickerdoodles. You get it all wet with the rain, then the very next day, the wind starts blowing all the dust around, and you get a nice red dirt coating on everything.
---------------------------
Nevermind -- I'll take care of it myself!

It was weird driving through it as it was coming down. It made visibility really bad here in NB. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
