The Birds & Bees Talk! When & What age ? - 03-20-2008, 06:50 PM

I get a lot of info here so i figured what the heck! My boy is going to be 8 in May and he has been asking some questions from stuff he is hearing in school. Whats the appropiate (spell check) age for this talk ? All his life I talk to him about everything and he is a great kid, we can take hime anywhere and he is always the best behaved kid there. No violence, no hitting, just a threat of a spank once in a while! For the most part we just have to tell him to be good and he is. I have taken him on engagement shoots as a reflector holder or light stand support and the couples have always said he was great to have around. I try not to take him, but you know how things happen. Anyways, how do I even begin the story ? I want him to know it's normal to think about you know what and know whats happening to his body but I have gone over it in my mind and I am kinda dumbfounded on how to start! Any help or resource would be great. Thanks.

I would say if he is asking you should answer him. I mean isn't that what we do? If child asks a question we provide an answer. They learn that way, and you should be proud that he is asking you. Fire away with your answers, don't be shy and let him know what he wants.

Option #2? He learns it from somewhere else.

My credintials? Proud father of 17 and 18 year old daughters who surely know more then me and everyone else who walks the face of this earth. But always say, I should have listened to dad.

Thanks John! Wow, 2 girls and I thought I had a problem, lol.. If he ask I would definitly answer, it's him not asking I am worried about! I want to tell him everything I can, but not sure when he is ready for it and how to begin.

Answer his questions...but don't get too caught up,,,I know some parents who tell the whole story and all the kid wanted to know was one little part!!! It's also a ton easier if you believe in God...!!! "because that's the way God wanted it" has been said more than a couple of times at my house!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good advice, thanks! He will not let us or anyone who sits at our dinner table eat until blessings are said, by him! I still want an idea about at what age should these talks begin ?

I don't think there is any age it begins.../I think the questions just get bigger and bigger and more in depth..and around puberty...is my guess ..when the whole story comes together...
