I came in this morning to find that someone was in my store last night. They didnt appear to take anything. Im still inventorying stuff. Im so creeped out. It feels like someones hiding in the storage room. Who breaks in and leaves everything? They reset my door sign from 11am to 5pm, moved stuff around a little, and left. I'd rather be able to tell why they came in than not be sure whats missing. I have to go finish looking for stolen stuff now. Would have been easier to tell that when we didnt have anything.

Im just worried some guys gonna jump out of the back with a wedding gown on and a reflector strapped to his head. What else would you strap a reflector to? lol. At least I took all the cameras home. On the up side - I still have them. On the down side - that would be a great shot. :o) My assistant gets here soon and I can be brave again. Im guessing she's gonna scare the Bejesus outa me.

Did you have ID information or CC receipts? There was a news story that the days of hocking some stolen drills and golf clubs is Passe...ID theft is where the money is and it is very hard to track and recover. I am trying to find the news story I just saw on it.

That is weird that they took nothing. Do you have credit cards or a checkbook in your store? One thing that crooks will do is copy down account numbers, but leave the actual cards or checks so that the victim will not think to cancel them with the thought that, since the card or check book was never taken, then there is no reason to close the accounts. Then, in a couple of days, the crooks try to buy one little thing to test to see if the account is closed. If the account is still open, then they go on a shopping spree before you realize it.

Thanks for the suggestion Tim. I'll keep an eye on my accounts. Apparently there were kids messing around across the street last night. The cop that was here this morning thought it was highly unusual - no vandalism and no apparent theft. I'll keep an eye on my accounts.

Consider getting a couple of security cameras and/or alarm.

I have used several fairly inexpensive AXIS internet based cameras in the past... They can be setup to email, FTP, etc image sequences based on motion detection. Everything is controlled through a linux based webserver built in. Worthwhile to take a look... even a cheap alarm system would be something I'd do immediately. Peace of mind if nothing else.

Sorry this happened to you.

This is an excellent suggestion, and furthermore, linksys ( I am not a huge fan of linksys, but they are one that I know has it) and other brands as well, have cameras that can connect wireless, and do the same sort of stuff as mentioned above. A real big help if you don't have an ethernet drop in the most optimum location.

If you wanted, you could have a Public IP address routed through the router so that you could get to the live camera from home, as well as having the camera ftp or email images or security alerts to you.

They are neat devices, and not expensive for what all they will do. If you are interested, let me know, and I can look up some part numbers.

Did they break in? You just said they were in the store. I would rekey just to be on the safe side.

Holly, sorry to hear that and I second this suggestion for a way to monitor your store while you are away.

I got a similar system but from Trendnet to monitor my baby girl, and it is pretty convenience. Thinking about getting some more to put around the house for extra security .

Andrew! That's what I was looking for! That would be perfect. I dont ever want to walk in alone and not know that someone has been in the store. GFB they are still back there. Someone tampered with the lock and got it. It took over 2 hours to get the door rekeyed. I'm looking into motion detector alarms today. Thanks for the suggestion.

Hey Holly, I have a friend who owns a pharmacy...she is always worried when she comes in and then when she closes. She has a great and cheap plan...She calls someone when she gets out of her car and into the building and locks the door and checks thinks out, then hangs up. Then reverses it on the way out. The only concern is to not be so into the conversation to forget what you are suppose to be looking out for... Then if something happens, the person on the other end always knows whats going on...she calls her husband. Just one idea to think about.
