Congratulations! That is awesome. I have am doing the constant battle to not look like the "frumpy thirty something mother of two" I know how hard it is. You should be very proud of your success!
I agree with someone above though, This is a PHOTO forum! So where are the before and afters??? Some of us need visual motivation!

Congratulations Tim. My husband and I too have had a "lifestyle change". My husband has lost 59 pounds since January 18th and I have lost 21. He started at 302, and well, I started 20 pounds heavier than I am now! We have started eating right, no cokes.. really nothing besides water to drink. We haven't had any red meat and we work out daily. I am so proud of both of us, but mostly him. He looks so different! I always hear the "don't you think he's losing it too fast" spill, but really there isn't anything to do different! We are just getting healthy is all. The advice that I can give is to make sure and drink a lot of water. He drinks 1 to 2 gallons a day. Me, I'm lucky to get in 1/2 gallon. BUT, when I do drink more, I notice that my weight loss is up! Also, keep in mind that if you substitute ground turkey or chicken for beef, that right there makes a lot of difference!!

They are having a "biggest loser" contest at his work, winner takes $1,000. He pretty much has it won.... WOOHOO!

Either way, just remember how healthy you are going to be. That's what I keep reminding myself of. This has been an awesome experience to go through with my husband and I have to tell you, it has only made us grow stronger together. We support each other which is what everyone going through something like that needs.
Good luck to you and keep us updated on your progress!! Just remember, don't let the bad weeks get you down. Make it push you harder!!

congrats to all of you - i've been struggling with weight for the past 5 years, and last year was finally fed up with it (no pun intended). i eat the right sizes of the right things, but no pounds were budging. i was tired, my feet hurt all the time and a host of other complaints.

after complaining to my regular doc who of course ignored me completely, i went to see an endocronologist. thyroid you say? what thyroid? seems mine wasn't working...at all. which accounted for that large area on my neck i just assumed was fat..to the point where i wouldn't wear anything with a collar. well, that was my 'goiter'. and thyroid nodules you say? yah - 9 of them. large ones.

so 1 year later, after daily thryoid meds, i'm 10lbs lighter...which is not enough btw..i still eat very healthy, do all the right things. so back at the dr's office yesterday, i'm like hey guys...i dont' care what the numbers say on the labwork. my heels are hurting so bad i can barely stand it some days, my face itches...the meds need to be adjusted. so yesterday they added cytomel to my pill cocktail to try to 2 months to see if they gets my metabolism jumpstarted.

i have had crohns disease since i was 16, and had 3 surgeries to remove many feet of small intestine, so you can imagine have never been overweight in my life what this feels like. for those of you that don't know, when you lose this many feet of intestines you have so many issues with what gets absorped - and what stays IN and for how long.

anyway - congrats to all who have lost weight...and for those that read this and can't seem to lose an ounce....get your thyroid checked. sometimes you can experience symptoms for years before anything shows up in bloodwork as being off.

Roxanna - for those who say your husband is losing the weight too fast. . . my doctor told me when I started trying to lose weight at first it would fall off fast, the heavier you are the faster you lose it but then it would slow down once I got to a reasonable weight. . .

Not trying right now as I'm pregnant. . . but as soon as baby is here will be hitting the gym again. . .

Wow, huge congrats to all of you! That's awesome!

I always struggle trying to get that last 10-15 lbs off. I'm only 170 but ideally should be around 155. I always thought I was fairly fit with they cycling, rollerblading, running, etc. But right now I'm on week 3 of the P90X program and OMG! It's insane! I can run 10 miles with less than a 10 minute mile average, and I can ride my bike to work a few days a week which is 11 miles each way, but this thing is kicking my butt! I know this doesn't really belong in this thread but I just wanted to say that if any of you keep up with it and and keep improving, I can highly recommend this program as one that will work in terms of getting you to that next level of physical fitness. Just make sure you take their fitness test before you buy the program. I don't have any experience with their less intense programs, but they would probably be worth looking at based on the quality of P90X.

Good luck!

Oh My Gosh
I never thought this many people would be giving me so much support and the ones that have been there and done that also. I have struggled with my weight since the late 80’s and just three years back I lost 40lbs and was RUNNING 2.5 miles a day I felt the best I ever had since high school.. I want that back as I will be 44 this year and my knees & Back were giving me such HELL..

LMAO Photo’s huh ?? You all know photographers belong on the back side of the equipment besides my photo will make you puke your toenails up thru your nostril’s…

I will bring forth a photo or 2 but BEWARE..

All I really do here to lose the weight is this:
1. Don’t drinks sodas “well one every 2-3weeks”
2. Eat oatmeal every morning “Instant Quaker Weight Control” Good stuff with Bananas!
2. Yup Subway “6inch Subway Club on wheat with L,T,O and honey mustard”
4. Portion control, portion control, portion control…Uuugggggg
5. I have 1 day a week I eat anything I want “But I KEEP sensible on what & Portion Control.
6. Keep busy doing things around the house ! Wife loves that part.. LOL
7. Exercise for minimum 30 minutes every morning. “I walk fast 2 ¼ miles in 30min then cool down walking for 10minutes” will be increasing it too 1hr.
8. Don’t beat yourself up for eating the wrong things just fix it the next day. I’m not on a diet”………….
9. Love yourself or you will be mean to yourself !L
10. Feel good about what your doing and eating…
11.I chew gum and drink lots of water.
12. Stopped eating sweets and sugar..

Thank each and every one of you for your post I hope this a continued thread and I will keep you all informed of my trip down the weight ladder..

I will stay on track to eating RIGHT.. And that is all I wanted to do, Losing weight I knew was going to happen so really this is NO DIET just eating right and excising too feel better..

This if a Life long change,

A Little History on Me:
I have had 2 open heart surgeries when I was 5months old and 4 yrs old for a hole in my heart from birth. So I was not being good too myself for the last 15yrs & shorting my life span and undermining what the Denton A. Cooley MD & Dr. Michael E. DeBakey Did to save my life! So I want to live the rest of mine Healthier!!!!!
I will be 44yrs old and that’s 40 yrs after my last open heart surgery. I can’t just keep treating my body this bad after all that 40yrs ago….

Wow! Congrats! Thats really great. I've been working at it too. I've gotten up to a run. Who knew? Ive never run before in my life. Unlike you, Im only loosing 1 pd/ week. I eat those special K bars for lunch and eat a normal dinner. I think if I didnt like cheese so much I'd be doing way better. I'm trying to get Mike to help me out and grill more. I also found this site that has the calories in stuff. And holy cow - who knew corn on the cob had that many calories! Calorie Counter

What about the other 3 meals? Woman need to eat 5 a day. That special k bar would be good for one of your snack meals. Don't starve yourself! You'll lose a few lbs in the beginning and then stall because you're body goes into starvation mode. This is why people get frustrated and quit. Eat eat eat! But eat right. www.fitday.com will help you keep track of those calories and your diet ratio of protein/carbs/fat. Protein should be the highest number at the end of the day.

The first post in this thread will give you the instructions for calculating how many calories you need to consume each day in order to stay healthy and lose weight.

And for everyone... that forum is probably THE BEST forum for help and inspiration in getting fit and healthy. The amount of information there is astounding, as is the transformation of it's creator which you can start reading about on the home page.

lol. I eat yuckie yogurt for breakfast (I hate yogurt - bleck!). About 20 cups of water (Ok more like 12 but it feels like 20). I may eat 2 of those meal bars if I work late and eat dinner when I get home. I dont drink coffee and need a caffeine fix, so a soda sneaks in there about every other day.

A side note on Coke: Its addicting. I used to laugh at one of my college friends. He HAD to have a coke all the time. I never drank soda before I was preggers. Empty calories and the caffinee gave me the jitters. Then, when I got pregnant with my 1st kid, I had morning sickness 24/7. I lost over 20 lbs in the 1st trimester (and I didnt need to). In an attempt to not have me drugged up on anti-nausea meds, they told me to drink coke. Since I was always sick, I always had a Coke. Damn hard habit to break.

I think Im still eating stuff too high in fat. Like I said I love cheese. Maybe I should be bringing some grapes or something up here to eat during the day. Those meal bars taste like hay after a while. They'd be better with cheese on them.

Welcome to my world! It's a great place to be!

I started out over 300 and worked my way down to a min of about 215 but these days I stay around 230.

I've put on more muscle mass since this pic but you get the idea.

Like the others said, it's not a diet, it's a lifestyle change and I've kept the weight off for about 2 years now so I know you can do just the same!

I'm in the gym 5 days a week. 3 days of weight training (up to a bench press max of 350# so far with a goal of 375#) and getting back to 2 5K run per week along with 2 spin classes per week. I've settled into the routine where it's just another part of daily life and not a hassle at all. In fact, if I miss a workout it really bothers me.

Keep up the good work!
