As you said the key prevent me from leaving too far... and most of the time as soon as the shoot is over and the client is out of sight... I am smoking (I dont smoke in the van... kids)

what a RELIEF to have someone HONEST enough to pick it up!

Natch. I've got my keys on a carabiner, and I just snap them to an outside loop on my pack.

Think of it as donating to charity. There's probably a really happy ol' dude who has built a house out of your reflectors and socks that get lost in the dryer.

Glad the original post here has a happy ending!

Well, got everything back and nothing had been touched. I've done about 15 events for this particular group since July so we've built up a pretty decent trust relationship. It's gone as far as **yep, i've done it** delivered images on the word that I'll be paid "when I can get the money."

funny thing is that I did an event on friday for the same people and this was one of those "we don't have the money to pay you at the event, but we will work to get it to you" things. I'm thinkin about tellin em that we're even for the equipment return.

I make out a check list before I go on a shoot then when I return I used a second copy of the same checklist to make sure I leave with what I arrived with. That's the only way to ensure you've got everything before you leave...you're dead tired anyway and this can easily happen again.

What happens if someone walks up and grabs the pack with keys attached from where it was set down... :)
I'm kidding! Good idea.

It's not always ideal, but I try to limit my gear to what I'll absolutely need and will fit in my sling bag. Then I wear that bag the whole session until it's time to get back in the vehicle & head home...

Kamari-Glad you're getting all your gear back.

Actually, I won't guarantee it does but most "floater" policies are "special risks" meaning if it isn't specifically excluded then it's covered. I suspect that some might actually cover leaving stuff and it being gone when you go back.
