I got in the mail, the invite to join the Texas Photographic Society. Anyone here a member, and is it worth $60?

WOW!
I have been involved in professional photography all over this state since 1981 and I have never heard of this group. This is not a commentary on my part, just a fact.

Hi Murph,

I joined with the regular member ($35) some time ago. For that they send a newsletter 6 times a year (if I remember correctly). You can download them from the website (http://www.texasphoto.org/BenefitMembers.html) but they don't have the latest up there. I've sometimes got interesting links from there, but I'm not sure how much benefit I've got;) I find that I always enjoy going through their website and I do read the newsletter when I get it. Not much help...

Best regards,

I'm a member. They lean strongly toward art photography rather than wedding and commercial. The Center for Contemporary Arts here in Abilene shows winners of the TPS National Contest once a year. I'm fairly certain it goes to other cities as well. They also have an annual Members Only contest. We don't usually get that show here, but it's been in San Marcos a couple of times. I like to receive the booklets they publish, which include the pictures of the winning photographs.

TPS also has workshops and get togethers which I have not taken advantage of, but I
should. If you are into alternative processes or hand coloring photos, I'm sure you'd find
kindred spirits in this group.

Just don't forget your cover sheets on your reports.

Now that you mention it, some art students in Abilene have probably had to make reports
on TPS shows. The joy of being an oldster is that I can skip all that.
