If it was that big of a concern, they should have restricted access to the area where the checkpoints could be viewed.

it reminds me of when my nephew graduated from the USNA in 02. We arrived 3 hours early to be allowed to enter the stadium for the open seating only to have the Navy and Secret Service keep giving us conflicting information about what we could or could not bring in. in this situation i'd just say no.
