Back after back surgery - 04-04-2008, 12:53 PM

Hello all. I am back online a week now after low back fusion. That had to be a D3 or a Big Cannon that hit me in the back. I put this off way too long and am walking well less than a week post op. I missed you all. Glad to be back. Hope to be shooting soon. A40D with grip is right at my 10 pound lift limit. LOL

David, walking helped my wife best after her low back fusion. Good to know you are up on your feet!

I may be pming you about your experience, thats the only option I have left. Of course, because of my age, nobody seems to want to do it.

I thought 55 was still young util I went to find a neuro guy to do my back. I went throught 2 to finally get to my surgeon (#3). Bedside is bad but I had surgery a week and a day ago and walked into his office without a cane or walker. I have been fighting the pain for over 25 years and pulling the fourwheeler over on myself after the first weekend of deer season was the straw that broke the david's back. Fusion was my only option. Email me direct if I can assist you in any way.

well, here's my issue.

I'm 26, overweight (but working on it). Have DDD along all portions of my lumbar and some thoracic. Two herniated disks, one has been repaired, but a week after surgery it re-ruptured and I had emergency surgery as I was bleeding internally around the site. Worst pain ever. So 2nd surgery a week later.

That was two years ago. Now I've been in chronic pain ever since. While I was in dallas I was told my only other option was a fusion.

Moved up to denver, pain is significantly worse, found a specialist up here and was told he would not do surgery because it would cause further instability. Saw a pain management doctor and nothing he tried (i say that sarcastically as all he tried was a new drug - highly addictive drug called opana, and epidural steroid injections - that was it) worked which involved about a month of treatment before he said "there's nothing I can do for you".

So I've had two strike outs, I'm looking for another pain management doctor and a spine specialist (heck, or even a neurosurgeon). I'm currently seeing a chiropractor which so far seems to be useless as my pain levels have increased.

So naturally I'm at my wits end, so I'm interested to see how your recovery is as I would need a fusion later. The reason they don't want to do it now is they say I'm too young, and it would be a few years later I'd have to have another one.

I'm researching the artifical discs, but they're still relatively new and the long term effects haven't been attained yet.
