Storing portraits - 04-10-2008, 10:20 AM

I am not sure if this is the right area. We have some printed portraits from my daughter's school. What is the best way to store these photos? Can I scan them for my own storage use, we don't plan on using these anymore as they are a couple of years old.

Thanks for any suggestions

1- make sure the mats, frames, etc. are ACID FREE
2- keep them out of any sort of light, especially sunlight.
3- try to keep them in a place that doesn't have extremes of temperature/humidity.

Take the photos out of the mats/frames and seperate them with ACID FREE paper. Lie them flat in a light tight box.

copying them is illegal. If you insist on breaking the law, then scan them and store the digital files in a safe place.

I scrapbook and Tom is correct.

If you are in doubt about any part of your storage (including the box) being Acid Free, purchase Acid Free/Lignon Free Spray...available at most craft/hobby stores.

I thought making a scanned copy for my personal storage was okay, just like CD's? I would never make a copy and pas it off as my own. These are school portraits that are still in there envelopes that were picked up at the school, so can I just put the whole envelope in an acid free box?
