Dallas drivers get short change on Yellow Lights - 04-14-2008, 06:05 PM

Red light camera monkey business may be a national trend

Seems the time of the yellow light is shorter then the minimum required by Texas Law so that the can send out more red light tickets to get more money.

I totaly believe this! I have noticed it on Rufe Snow Dr in N. Richland Hills at Mid-Cities Blvd the yellow is about 1/2 sec. What they want to kill people just to make more money ? Totaly Big Brother to me, I hate it!

I read an article in the paper stating Dallas has stopped monitoring some of it's cameras because they work too well....

It costs them roughly $3400 per camera per month to run them and since people now know they're there they aren't making enough to cover the basic monthly costs..

For the good of the public my ass... if they were really serious about safety they wouldn't have a problem sending the profits from these cameras to a general fund managed in Austin.

Er, while you may be correct as to their motives, as a general rule the larger the government, the less efficient it is with the taxpayer's (or anyone else's) dollar. Therefore I almost never want to see those dollars go up the food chain.

The company my Sons Brother-In-Law works for installs these redlight cameras. One day he stopped by my Son's home with one of the actual cameras in hand!
My Son told me it was a Nikon DSLR!!!!!

I never drive Davis Blvd. anymore, as it's obvious that they shortened the yellow light times at the 4 camera intersections, and the speed limit is 45 or better at these lights which makes it hard to stop without slamming on the brakes.

My new route is slightly longer, but I've found it a more pleasant drive anyway. Thanks NRH!

Always thought they should just draw a big yellow line across the road. Measure it off so it's the distance it takes to stop when traveling at the posted speed. That way when the light turns yellow it's a real easy way to see that you're either inside the line, and can go through the light, or not.

that sure would make things easier... I got a ticket approx.3 years ago for running a yellow light ... I started to brake but the car behind me did not so I gassed it again and went on through... afraid that the knuckle head behind me was going to nail me...

Cop pulls me over and says Ma'am do you know why you were pulled over? well NO not really I was stuck between running a yellow light "safely" or getting REAR ended by the driver behind me..

He looked at me and flat out said because you slowed down through the yellow light.. if you would have kept going there would not be an issue... WHAT?????

they are really scrutinizing the houston red light as well

they do that where I'm from (perth western australia) - well actually they have a solid white line from the stop line going back a further distance - depending on the speed of the road its long or short - if you're within that line, you can go through - ASSUMING you're travelling the limit and not speeding up to avoid said light.

Works in theory... in practice its another matter lol
