... so you're doing an *open source* photography business. "non-profit" and "business" are mutually exclusive... IMO. My question to you is, HOW do you know WHICH parents can't afford senior photos?

I applaud your values and your goals. I just wish they didn't cut into my ability to become a photographer full-time.

No idea on the name.. I've thought about offering my services to the local Boystown ranch, and a couple of orphanage/group homes near here.

I don't think it would be cutting into anyones profits - since they don't have parents to pay for it for them...

"I don't think it would be cutting into anyones profits - since they don't have parents to pay for it for them..."

Bingo

best of luck and Godspeed in your endeavour.

not much on ideas but don't use anything that implies a lack of ability to pay. It could add to the stigma that they may already feel.

Perhaps a creative combination of your names.

maybe: Joe and Mel Phiner Photos

i'll stop now....

Well, we will ask them to show an i.d. and a current paycheck stub... We will also contact staff members in the schools and let them know what we are all about and they can hand out or business card to the particular students... I do photography as a part time business and would love to do if full time... I really believe in the "golden rule" and "karma" if you will, and "what goes around comes around" I do not see this being any threat to the money making side of my business... in fact... I think it will help!!!

Scott,

This is a great thing you are doing. There are a lot of kids around Longview that would really benefit from this endeavor. This would allow them to feel a little bit better about graduating----knowing they too will be able to get pictures like the financially "better-off" kids in Longview. I do a good bit of work with the schools around the area. Please let me know if you need help spreading the word.

By the way, once word gets out about your program, the teachers and counselors are good sources for discretely "nominating" kids that can't afford photography services.

I think that is great! I've thought about bartering. My mother needs help doing housework so I have thought about doing some photography work in exchange for some housecleaning.
