Wife was in the Georgetown to Llano area last weekend and she noted that we have more wildflowers along 635 in Mesquite than in the whole of Llano County this year...
Her observation... I'm just passing it on so don't shoot the messenger.

Hill country is lacking this year due to the lack of rain in the fall, when it's most detrimental for the little wildflower seeds.

Yeah, they're pretty low this year. The ones that were out in our neighborhood are mostly dying off already. You may be mostly out of luck.

Just the bluebonnets or everything?

Well I do still see a bunch of pinks (don't know what those are, but they're still good). The bluebonnets are mostly gone, and I didn't see any paintbrushes at all. This is in/around Austin. There are other photos on the forum around Brenham and especially Industry that were amazing. Mostly a search for "bluebonnets" here at TPF comes up with a lot of threads expressing disappointment.

We're heading out to Garner State Park this weekend. I'll report results early next week. Feel free to PM me or remind me here if I forget.

There are very few wild flowers of any kind this year. Try the Ladybird Wildflower Center in Austin. They won't be wild, but there will be some flowers.

I've noticed the lack of flowers this year as well. A friend of mine wanted to do a shoot with both of our kids in a batch of flowers, but with our schedules it doesnt look like it's going to happen.

Our route over the weekend:

I would argue that the drive on 281 between Marble Falls and Blanco is a good indicator of the flower potential across much of the area. We saw zilch. Well, we saw an occasional pink; emphasis on occasional. I think the area we drove South of I10 is the most beautiful in the state. Here, we really did see zilch. There were no flowers anywhere, seriously. If folks want to go for a drive for pretty scenery, by all means head out this way, just don't expect any flowers this year. There's a place called Wildseed flowers East of Fredericksburg that relies on flower production for good business. Even they lacked significant color. Oh well. There's always next year!

That pretty much covers the Hill Country area known for wildflowers. Thanks for sharing!

Yep, I was down there this past weekend and there is just nothing there this year. We have much more up this way just along the highway.

This is a bummer! I am going to Fredericksburg this weekend in hopes of getting some good flower shots :(
