Driving in the left lane is illegal unless you are passing someone. I don't care if you are going 95 mph, if you ain't passing someone, move right regardless of if there is anyone behind you.

If for some reason you or your vehicle cannot go close to the speed limit, get off the highway. Nowhere in the Constitution does it mention driving 35mph on a highway with a load of used lumber as an inalienable right.

It's called a STOP SIGN. Not a "stop if someone else is coming sign", or "kinda-sorta-stop sign" or even a "close-enough stop sign". Stop is the complete absense of motion. period. Your kids are watching.

Do the makeup, shave, do the deal, beat the kid BEFORE you get in the car, not while on the freeway.

Otherwise normal folks look down on those who watch daytime soaps, but think nothing of watching night time soaps (CSI, Survivor, etc). Think about it.

Folks that vote straight ticket need to have the remaining half of their brain removed.

Don't take life too seriously, you'll never get out alive.

Where? 'Cause I wanna go live there. Texas, in their infinite lack of wisdom withdrew that law shortly after making it. Now the law is that, "If posted as such, the left lane is only for passing." So, if there's no sign, those slow pokes that barely drive the speed limit can poke along in the left lane all they want.

As I understand it, it's legal to drive in the left lane while not passing, but it is illegal to make someone going faster than you pass you on the right. Same effect: move over.

As much as I would hate it, I can't wait until they pass a law to get people off their &%$# phones while driving....I don't care who you are you can't talk and drive at the same time...and don't get me started on texting..of course my brother in law loves people who text. He's an auto body guy...

I have a serious love/hate relationship with public roads and their drivers. My biggest gripe is that many drivers don't know how to behave in bottlenecks and jams; the act of changing lanes effectively slows the lane your moving into, perpetuating the jam. I live in a part of town that didn't get the infrastructure upgrade it needed before the population rise came and the road to my neighborhood goes from two lanes each way to one lane. At rush hour this turns into a long bottleneck. One lane will be full and the other lane will be mostly empty except for the idiots that bypass the full lane to race ahead and force their way in at the last second. Each time a car does that, the whole full lane must wait for them to get in. It really bites. The considerate are forced to wait on the inconsiderate and there is never any recourse.

So is my husband . . . he encourages it. . . oh I'm sure it was just a fluke that you were texting at the time of your wreck. I mean seriously you look like a good and safe driver. . .

People driving while talking on their phones drive me nuts. You can watch them weaving all over the interstate and when you see their hand clamped to the side of their head... give them a wide berth.

In the UK it has been illegal for some time now. Here's a page that explains the whys and wherefores. I see that California has also passed a law to ban it (although bizarrely, not texting!) so perhaps other states will follow in due course.

I imagine the Texas economy will be affected by all the employers who expect their employees to be on the phone all day whilst in their cars, suddenly they won't be allowed to. Will they behave, I wonder? In the UK employers are not allowed to force employees to talk while driving. It could be interesting here.

Actually, the way I was informed many moons ago is that the law says that slower traffic must move right.... so if someone is coming up behind you, regardless of your speed, you are obligated by law to move right.

If the speed limit is 55 and you are doing 65 .. if you are impeding progress of someone who was going even faster, YOU could get a ticket for "blocking the flow of traffic" or somesuch.

And for cell phones.. leave us alone. Do NOT pass a law banning cell phones while driving. Its not cell phones that cause accidents, its distracted driving, and there is already a law on the books against that.

If you pass a law banning cell phones based on it being the source of distraction, you should also specifically ban:
  • cb radios (wouldn't the police love that.. since they are the worst)
  • eating
  • makeup
  • shaving
  • talking to other passengers in your car
  • thinking about something other than driving
  • radios
  • singing
  • driving with your head up your... but I digress
  • etc, etc, etc

All of those things also cause accidents...

Hmmm, let's see, while driving back from Houston to Dallas, I'm trying to stay awake by talking on the phone. Would you rather I be awake at the wheel or asleep at it?? Also, you may as well ban GPS units, too, because they are talking to you.

Your coming to a red light that allows a right turn on red, you are not turning right ? Why are you in the right hand lane when the guy behind you is late for his next stop and wants to turn right on red ? This really bugs me, in Mass it's a unwritten law that you do not stop at a red light in the right hand lane if you are going straight.

Actually, turning right on red is an option unless the lane is a right-turn-only lane. The guy behind me, who's running late or is impatient, isn't my problem.
