I just read a story from CNN about Miley Sirus being embarrassed about some of her photos that wert taken for Vaniety Fair. She's only 15 and at least one of them she is posing topless, although wrapped in a blanket. The photo in my opinion isn't "provocotive, but what was Annie Leibovitz thinking? She's 15!
Here's the behind the scenes photo link... http://www.vanityfair.com/culture/fe...00806?slide=15
And here is the CNN story... http://www.cnn.com/2008/SHOWBIZ/Musi...tml#cnnSTCText

I dunno. I find it hard to blame Leibovitz given her reputation. As far as the backlash, I think it's a bit strange that so much attention is going to be paid for such a shot when 17 year old Jamie Lynn Spears is pregnant and Lindsey Lohan was in drink/drug rehab long before she was 21.
Maybe it's because she's worth so much, maybe it's because it's "Disney" property (The same company that managed to distance itself from B. Spears & Lohan after they got too old for their core audience)
If Joe Schmoe wants to take a picture of my 15 year old in such garb the answer is a resounding NO! But if Annie wants to...
I think the blame goes directly to Vanity Fair and Disney, both of which are well on their way to exploiting the situation. MC's statement is to cover her one billion dollar backside which is also understandable.
I won't be buying Vanity Fair and my daughter will never see it. If she does (school, friends, etc...) I'll have a sit down with her. That's the best I can do and sadly, it won't be the first time...

This is the what the hubbub was all about...I heard the tail end of a story and was wondering why the controversy. Apparently some people are unhappy with it, because of all the other teenage celebs that are pregnant, etc. They say shes kept out of all the normal "crap" and wonder if she's starting to cross the line.

I don't understand. If the shot was embarrassing then why did Miley pose topless (albeit covered by a blanket) in the first place? I don't get how she would object to something she agreed to knowing full well it was for a magazine.

From what I've seen, most 15 year olds are naive and easily influenced, especially in a spotlight situation such as this. Bottom line is, it was the parents' call to approve or disapprove. Of course we all make mistakes and do things in poor judgment that we later regret. It will be interesting to see how things progress as she gets older. Hopefully, she can maintain her integrity and not go the way of Britney, Jamie, Lindsey, et al.

It's only because parents of teenage girls are upset and have voiced that to Disney and Disney has voiced that to their little star of the day, so of course she is upset about it now.

Well, the pics I've seen so far are not nearly as bad as I thought.
It's a lot less offensive then some of the "clothing" I see teen girls "wearing" these days.
I am surprised that Mr. Achy Breaky would allow this.
No way would I let my daughter(not that I have one) do a shoot like this.

Does anyone have a link to the photo itself? I poke around and couldn't find it.
From the description it actually sounds quite tasteful, but I'd like to actually see it to form an opinion.
(oof just found it)
I think the picture is beautiful, but I agree that maybe it's a little grown up for a Disney icon. I don't think it's provocative though, nor do I think it's anything she should feel embarrassed about. Her position as a teen star is an awkward one though, so I can understand why she probably has to say that.

According to Annie Leibovitz, the parents were on set all day and approved each pic as they were shot digitally. Hmmm?
