What do you think about using cemeteries as a location? - 04-30-2008, 06:45 PM

The parks fee on the Houston board got me thinking about this.

There have been a few times I was looking for a really nice, rich natural background for a shoot and decided to use a gorgeous cemetery here in Houston. Not only did I use some of the non-tombstone looking architecture for styling, but I shot a bunch of it in a way that you would never know it was in a cemetery.

Anyone else every try this?

I think as long as you are respectful of the people who have been laid to rest there, there's no problem with it, and I bet some of the older cemetaries have some very interesting places to shoot.

I always wondered... are cemeteries considered private property or public? Does it make a difference if you have family buried there?

Most cemeteries are private property and you will need to get permission.
Even the public ones (like the Veterans) should be asked for permission.
Respect.
