Who here believes in the death penalty - 05-01-2008, 07:11 AM

Should an old or really outdated camera get the death penalty? I.E. being thrown away. Or should they get a reprieve and be gently sent on into that good night by giving them away to someone else?

How do you dispose of your old Digital camera equipment? I am not talking film bodies, but really outdated digital cameras. Or broken digital cameras that cannot be fixed for a reasonable amount of $$$$.

I lean towards donating the old, working, camera to places like Salvation Army, Goodwill or some other local charity.
Not sure about broken digitals came. Maybe a disposal location that accepts things like old CRT monitors or batteries.

You might also consider donating to a school that has a photography program or a church that might use it for member photos etc., if it's working.

It's not working and I don't have plans to ever use it again, I send to a recycle facility. If it's in good working order and I don't plan to use it I normally offer to friends or family, if no one wants it I donate it to charity.

Old digital cameras that still work I'd give away. Broken would go in the trash.

The problem with digital cameras is that they are essentially throw away items just like VCRs or DVDs once they break, pro grade not included.

I give them away, let someone who doesn't own one have a chance to "catch the bug".

Gave away and old film camera and the kid still uses it.
Gave away one of my first digital cameras and it's still used in that family.

But the broken ones I just trash.

When my P&S broke for the second time, I hit it with a hammer, and then threw it in the dumpster.

I felt better after that.

I've been "collecting" them. When they don't work it's on the shelf as a bit of "modern nostalgia".

Good to see I am not the only one that has killed a broken camera.

The cat we used to have killed my favorite point and shoot, by knocking over a glass of kool-aid right on to it. The camera didn't get fried just very sticky on many key spots. it was either full zoom or wide.
