Carpal Tunnel/Cubital Tunnel Surgery - 05-02-2008, 10:13 AM

Has anyone had carpal tunnel and/or cubital tunnel surgery? I am scheduled for both in the near future and was curious about the recovery time.

Had carpal tunnel surgery a few years back....both hands (separate times of course) and each recovery period was brief..now, if I could improve the face God gave me -- that would be a miracle - and recovery time would take eons.

just make sure you follow the doctors orders, if you return to the task that gave you CTS to begin with too soon the surgery will have been a waste.

Look up a new procedure being offered now that is not invasive surgery. I hear it is much quicker to recuperate from.

Well tomorrow is the big day. The surgeon will scope my right wrist and that takes 5 minutes, but he is also relocating the ulnar nerve in my elbow. That takes around 25 minutes and I will have a half cast/brace that can not be removed to immobilize my elbow for 2 weeks. Not looking forward to that.

For anyone interested, my surgery went fine. I have my arm propped up, my pain meds, ice pack and my notebook pc so I am good to go.

As I am sitting here with my right arm in a cast from 4 inches above my elbow to just past my knuckles, I thought
I would share some of my observations:

1. Pain medication is great.
2. I have a new respect for left-handed people living in a right- handed world.
3. Pain medication is great.
4. Some itches can't be scratched.
5. Pain medication is great.
6. Where woul we be with out TV remotes?
7. I'm glad I mastered the one finger hunt and peck typing method.
8. Did I mention the pain meds?

Update - 06-12-2008, 06:14 PM

I got the cast taken off today and everthing looks good. The incision at the base of the palm is about an inch long and is not tender at all. The one on the inside of my elbow is about 3 inches long and is tender in spots. I still have 4 weeks of recuperation where I can not lift anything more than 2 pounds.

It was time for round two. I had carpel/cubital tunnel surgery yesterday on the left arm. It's going to be easier this time I hope since I am right handed. The bad news is I have a brand new Canon 50d that I can't play with much with only being able to use one hand. The good news, I get the cast off on 12/23.
