As someone who ran restaurants for over 25 years before quitting for photography full time, you need to question what the waiter told you. I would have asked him to explain what he meant at the time and if it were your thinking it was, then get the mgr/owner in on the conversation. Trust me, I had employees telling customers all kinds of BS that they thought would bring them more tips. It may have been that the waiter wanted you to spend more and that was his poor attempt at increasing the bill. If its on the menu, then they can't say squat about you ordering it. If it's not on the menu then you might have some problems, but most restaurant owners will sell you just about anything you want if they can do it. It they don't want the place to be a pizzeria, then they shouldn't sell it. If this is a place you care about, talk to the owner. Chances are, if you don't, he will never know what kind of misinformation his employees are giving out. |
