Well I just watched the new trailer for the upcoming clone wars movie and first let me say I am a huge Star Wars fan I have played every game, read every book and can recite the movies at will, but I have to ask WHY, is lucas that desperate to soak every last penny possible out of the franchise that he is willing to drag it though the mud. | | | | | Sponsored Links | Premium Members do not see Google advertisements. I thought "Phantom Menace" answered that question already?

Lol, I liked the Phantom Menace, mainly because I looked past how lucas got all caught up in wow of digital animation and enjoyed how well the Jedi/senate/queen were played by the sith.

I'm actually disappointed that they're doing this.
In the lead up to Revenge of the Sith (aka Episode 3), they did a co-op effort with Cartoon Network for the Clone Wars and it wasn't too terribly bad. To do this and disregard all that is kind of annoying.
There's also been talks for quite some time of a Star Wars television series. /shudder

In retrospect, special effects has been Lucas' only saving grace. If you really watch the movies from the perspective of a critic, especially the original, the scripts aren't that great and the acting is horrible. As evidenced by their careers, Harrison Ford was the only actor worth his salt to come out of that series. If we hadn't been "wowed" by the special effects, I think everybody would have realized that.

Well, IMO, I just watched the trailer and it isn't all that bad. Let's remember that Star Wars "is" marketed for kids and not adults. Lucas has said this many times. Let's also not forget that however corny or silly TPM was, it was a return for Star Wars and Lucas has always been in the forefront of technology and pushing the envelope. Plus, Indiana Jones completely makes up for however everyone thinks about Star Wars.

Well... I think it looks like crap. They did such a good job on Yoda in the RoS that it makes this look like a step or 2 (hundred) back.
Looks like something that was made 10 years ago.

I don't think they were looking to create the same look of the characters from the movies. The Cartoon Network series is the influence here and they are going after that look in a CG form. I do agree, I don't particularly like the look. I am more of a fan of the original trilogy and then the newer movies.
In 2009, there will be a live action TV series and I read somewhere on a BBC website that Lucas has committed to do 400 episodes. It will be marketed in the genre of shows like Stargate and Xena and shot in New Zealand or Australia. My information is dated so if anyone has better please share. I had even heard at a convention that Lucas was planning another "prequel" with Yoda as the main character and set several hundred years in the past. SciFi Expo in Plano has conventions with the actors, artists, etc. and they shed some light on this.

From what I have heard about the upcoming tv series is that it will be in the past as lucas has stated many times over he will never go beyond Darth Vader and with all the Books written that where approved by lucas he really doesn't have much leeway and space to work with. I have read he is going way back to the Knights of the Old Republic era and that would be cool as there is so much untapped story potential there.

As a whole most of the rest of the books are nothing but fan fiction in that sense and are not "approved" by Lucas.
things of course may have changed over the years tho and he may have given some more blessings since then

Why would Lucas feel bound by the books? It's not like the series is all that strong on internal consistency as it is. I know he made some bs attempts to "explain" major gaffes in the last movie (like wiping the droids memories).
As for the first movie, if you were old enough at the time, you might remember that that movie had a level of energy and a pace that was a couple of orders of magnitude beyond anything else that was being made at the time. Other action movies from the period seem extremely slow by comparison. Today, people don't get how revolutionary that pace was, largely because the Lucas/Spielberg pacing has infected just about every movie now made, and certainly any movie that claims to be an action movie. The special effects of the first movie were so -so, and the acting is pretty bad. Compared with American Graffiti, which had an amazing crew of actors who went on to have decent careers, Star Wars is pretty much a bust.
