Studio for rent? - 02-03-2005, 12:25 AM

I am considering opening up a studio and renting it out to other photog's to use on an hourly, 1/2 day, day, and weekly time frame. I was wondering how many people would be willing to rent studio time and how much would you be willing to pay for full use of all equipment, i.e. backdrops, lights, props, basically everything except camera equipment. The idea is to provide photographers the ability to learn and use a studio without having the initial outlay of funds.

Any ideas suggestions or comments would be greatly appreciated!

I think this is a wonderful idea! I found one available for rent in my area. I haven't tried it yet, but I want to soon. :)

I agree, I'd be willing to pay for something like this in Houston. maybe 30-50.00 an hour or a daily rate

Thanks! - 02-03-2005, 10:43 AM

Thanks for the replys! The studio (hopefully) will be located DFW area. Probably in Southlake or Grapevine which are located basically half way between Dallas and Fort Worth.

Sorrry for those of you from Houston that have replied, it would be a little far to drive!

I forgot to mention that the studio for rent near me is $25/hr.

Grapevine is near me, too, so if you do decide to go with it, I'd definitely rent from you.

Sounds good to me. I have some lights, backdrops, etc, that I have collected lately. Just need for someone to teach me how to use them correctly........ :)

If you don't mind me prying a little, where do you rent from now and what all does that include?

Also, what would you (everyone) like to see in a rental studio that ohers might not be suppling or offereing now. Equipment, props, drakrooms etc.?

This was all just an idea that popped into mind the other day and after doing a little research and hearing from others I think it would be a great business opportunity and service to other photog's.

So my new question to everyone would be, what would a "dream" studio look like to you?

I've never actually been there. I just happened across it when I was searching for a local photographer willing to take an apprentice (didn't find one, by the way). Here's the website- http://www.douglasanddouglas.com/
The price includes the studio, lighting equipment, backgrounds and "a few props". I'm not sure what they have since I haven't been there yet, but that's what they said on the phone.

Good luck! If you do this, I'm definitely interested in renting it from you some. :)

tink3rbell612:

Please keep me posted on how things work out for your dad. I may be interested in talking with him and sharing some ideas especially since he is in Houston and I'm here in the Big D there won't be a competition issue. Thanks!

Nicole:
Thanks for the support and interest. I may take a drive out Douglas and Douglas and see what they have to offer.

Thanks again!

moorecr8tv,
I'll find out more. My sister does more photography and video than me, so she's planning on starting it up. I think she planning on opening in two weeks.
If you want to email my dad about this.. he's at meb1453@aol (Marc)
He can tell all the details, you want to know.
