Can infants learn to swim?

May 14: A program for infants 6 months and older aims to protect them from drowning by teaching them swimming skills. NBC's Amy Robach reports from Coral Gables , Fla.

that's not swimming skills that's survival skills. just like the guy in the video explained.
That is amazing. I would really like to see how you condition your 6 month to do that. I taught swimming for years and I would have never thought to do that.

What made me cry was the man's story who actually started this teaching. An 18yr old changed like that by a tragedy and driven to do something about it.

I have seen this before and I know a few people who have done this. It's an amazing thing!!

Baby's learn to 'swim' long before birth, it comes naturally since they 'swim' in the womb. This program re-teaches some of those skills. We have our little one signed up this summer.

Similar classes/videos can be seen here: http://www.babyswimming.com/DiaperDolphins.htm

I saw something about this on another channel recently - too weird to watch them letting the toddler fall into the water and he floated back to the top and on his back for several minutes. Creepy even. Could save many lives tho.

When I lived in Australia, they would teach the babies to swim by basically throwing them in the pool, little babies. It was crazy, but it worked.

Take it from someone who had parents that were afraid to let their kids near the water......please let your kids learn to swim at a young age. They will sooner or later want to or "need" to swim. It is better they know how to swim when they need to than suffer the consequences of not knowing how----it may save his/her life.
