Heads turn up on different bodies in McKinney yearbooks

Associated Press

McKINNEY — McKinney school officials say they are appalled by altered photos — including heads on different bodies — in hundreds of high school yearbooks delivered this week.

Besides the head and body switching, some necks were stretched, and some outfits were altered by a national photography company, The Dallas Morning News reported in its online edition on Friday.

Officials from Lifetouch, the Minnesota-based company, did not respond to the newspaper's requests for comment. An e-mail sent to the company by the Associated Press on Friday night was not immediately answered.

School officials said the company acknowledged that someone with Lifetouch intentionally altered the photos.

Lifetouch has agreed to pay to reprint the yearbooks, McKinney school spokesman Cody Cunningham said. Lori Oglesbee, the yearbook adviser at McKinney High School, said the yearbook staff planned to spend the weekend trying to rebuild the yearbook.

I saw that in the paper today. I figure somebody at Lifetouch will get the ax over this. But I don't understand why yearbooks come out now. Makes it had to get pictures of prom and graduation in the book.

If they don't, they should. This is inexcusable.

Our Yearbook won't be available to students until the beginning of next school year so that the prom and graduation can be covered. If I remember right, my High School yearbook didn't come out until sometime in the summer but that was 1983.

A big part of our yearbook was having your friends sign it. That can't be done when it is delivered later in the year.

I teach high school and our students usually get their yearbooks around this time. I know, I spend a good amount of time reminding them to keep it put away and not pass it around while I am trying to teach. When I was in high school, we always got ours at the end of the year and had a big "signing party" before school was out.

This is done so that the companies can then sell more prom and graduation pictures...

The funny thing is, it could have very easily been a student on the yearbook staff. At least the way we did it at my high school. All of the photos came through our class before being shipped off to the printer. They of course, might do it differently.

Back in high school, we (the yearbook staff) got the prints back from the photographer that did all the classes photos and we had to go through them and put them in alphabetical order and while we did that we'd have to find the photos that had cuss words on shirts, excess cleavage, spaghetti straps and all the other school dress code stuff. We'd then give em to the yearbook advisor and she would fix them. Then most of the time the course of action to correct them was a ultra-fine tip Sharpie. Squiggly lines for hair to cover boobs happened a lot.

You would think life touch would proof, or at least send proofs before printing the entire run.

well if they didnt before they probably are now. it was on fox and friends this morning and they listed a lot of what was wrong with the pictures. some people had missing limbs and I think they said that one girl in a picture had exposed breasts (or I could have still been half asleep when hearing that, but thats what I thought they said).

This is classic Lifetouch. Their ads for worker's in Monster.com and the local agencies read: "No Photography EXPERIENCE necessary."

I love em. I re-do at least 30-40 Senior sessions a year that Lifetouch tried to sell a senior in my area that just totally blow. I wish there were more companies like them to drive seniors my way.

That was my question. Whomever did this was obviously out of line, but I would also look to the company's editors and to the yearbook staff and sponsor for not proofing the thing?

We got ours the last two weeks of school so Prom was covered.

If it was done like my high school, the yearbook adviser (teacher) had to sign off before they went to print. Hmmmmm..
