Exclamation Check expiration dates on eyedrops - 05-22-2008, 12:45 PM

Ok so for once I did a stupid thing and was in a hurry and didnt check eyedrops on the shelf at a CVS. Im paying for it now. I use eyedrops constantly for recurrent epithelial erosions that cause cornea abrasions. Anyway, bought some Refresh Endura/Dry Eye therapy drops at CVS this week. Got home used one vial immediately had eye start burning that was Tuesday night. Wednesday morning decided to check the date since I never had those burn before.

One of those times when I should have thought to take a picture of the date on the box before going to the store complaining and asking for a refund. Anyone wanna guess the expired date? 2005. You could see my head explode from miles away Im sure. The other box expired March 2008. I not only took them back and asked for a refund but made a complaint.

I say all of this to say now two days later I may have to go in and have my eye looked at by an ophthalmologist because my eye still hurts and I think in the midst of all this fun I may have another cornea abrasion. *Sighs*

Just had to share the stupidity of retail stores and their customers ;)

wow...

(going to check the date on mine now)

good luck I hope that this gets resolved and that the drops DID not irritate your condition worse and if they did I hope the company reimburses your medical cost...

fortunately i can just see doctors on base for it with husband being military but with him being in nebraska it gets harder to find rides when I need them to get to lackland where Im assigned for eye stuff. We spent the whole week I had with him here beginning of this month with him having to drive bc I had another abrasion.

thanks for the thoughts Holly, just figured Id share so people would check up on their own.

Hope you feel better. I always look at the expiration date for everything. I learned my lesson in the Marine Corps. One time in Africa we all ate expired MRE's, talk about grouped food poisoning....They were about 3 years passed their expiration date....

Im not sure how many other boxes they had expired cause the next day when I went in there were no more on the shelf and there had been at least 5 when i bought mine. Eye is doing a little better but still kinda sore I have emailed my eye doctor to see what he thinks. Thanks for all the thoughts everyone.

well to make you feel a little better, I knew someone that mistook their eyedrops for super glue...same looking bottle. Luckily everything came out ok....but oh my, that will make you look real close at bottles from now on. I hope you feel better soon...having eye issues stinks...
