European hotel recommendations - 05-23-2008, 03:09 PM

Okay you world travelers out there, my daughter and I will be traveling to Frankfurt, Germany and to London for a few days. Does anyone have any recommendation for a relatively inexpensive but secure, clean hotel that is American friendly? These two cities are intermediate stops on either end of a trip to Capetown, SA. Figured we spend a couple of days on either end doing the tourist thing in Europe since we have to travel through there anyway. Any former Army guys or gals familiar with either of these cities?

'Relatively inexpensive' and London do not go in the same sentence. If you want nice, we stay at the Reuben, in London. It's a small, beautiful old hotel a couple of blocks from Buckingham Palace. The London Marriott County Hall on Westminster Bridge Rd. gives you a great view of the Thames. Well, if you get the right room. And, your looking at the London Eye, right outside your room.

We've stayed at a Steigenberger Hotel, in Frankfurt. I think there is more than one, don't have cue which we stayed in. Usually, though, Frankfurt is just an overnight pass thru, so we stay at the NH Hotel at the airport.

They ain't relatively inexpensive, but worth the money. Anyway, that's all I got.

What do you consider "relatively inexpensive?" I haven't been to London in a few years, but I can ask a friend who is from there and travels frequently. London hotels, like those in Paris....well, Howard said it......inexpensive isn't really applicable.

Haven't been to Frankfurt....sorry, no help on that one.

"relatively inexpensive" would be $200 and night or less. Clean is important, secure/safe is a must.

Ray,

Check NH Hotels. Looks like they might be in the ballpark. We have stayed in them in Amsterdam, Berlin, and others. They are nice, not Marriott, or the Reuben, but quite nice.

Ray, I am from the UK so don't usually "stay" in London.
However, I have stayed here;

VERY clean, just around corner from Harrods, close to ALL central attractions etc.
Any other advice please ask away or PM.
Nick
