I got my Unit 1 course materials, and I'm very excited to get started. :) Come on 7pm! (That's my kids' bedtime, so it will have to wait until then)

I never thought I'd be so excited to be a student again.

Yeah, me too. I've heard great things about it, only thing that put me off is the $$$$$.

One complaint I have heard is that they still use Cassettes and VHS instead of CDs and DVDs, which seems a little ancient. A little upfront cost (minimal in these times) and they could save a fortune on copies and postage by switching.

It's going very well. I just completed the tapes and lessons for unit 1, so now I'm ready for my first photo assignment.

I'm not sure if it will change as I get further in the course, but it seems like a beginner course to me. Which is great for me since I'm a beginner. I did know some of what was covered in the first unit, but I also learned quite a few things, as well.

So far, I'm happy. But, I don't know how much a trained professional would benefit from this course.

I don't think most of us consider ourselved pro's. rather long time hobbiests.
I think I'd be very interested in it. Is there an advanced course or a way to quickly advance as you go?

As far as I know, there is only the Professional Photography and the Digital Photography courses. It's self-paced, so you should be able to progress as quickly as you'd like. Unless you are like me and had to do the monthly payment option. For now, I'm at the mercy of my payment schedule. They send one unit per two payments. So, I have a couple of months before I even receive unit 2. I guess I might have to make a double payment just so I don't stall in the course.

They make you jump through hoops to get the price. I ended up calling. I was quoted $998 for monthly payments ($28 initial payment, $35 a month) and $798 if you pay in full up front.

What I've heard is that once they get you on their mailing list, if you don't sign up, they send you discount coupons every once in a while. I heard someone got $200 off and then signed up at that ime.

I got the info and was disappointed to see the price. Given the choice, I'll wait and go to the Texas School next year when I've got time.

NYIP works well for me because I'm a stay-at-home-mom of a one-year-old and a two-year-old. So, I can't go to traditional classes. I love that it's at my own pace, in my own home. :) That's critical for me at this point in my life.
