What planet are they from ?? - 05-24-2008, 09:24 PM

I just saw a news report about the rise of gasoline prices. It was the usual comparison of last years Memorial Day price vs. this year, Texas vs. California, etc. etc.
There were several people at the pumps who were interviewed and they sat there in their car and cried " $60 I don't believe it ", "$100 to fill up, what's up with that ?"
Then there were the boaters. "$5/gallon is highway robbery". First of all , don't these folks watch TV or listen to radio or read a newspaper ? Don't they know that gas is nearing $4/gallon and some are predicting $12/gal not far away ?
And, the boaters should realize that they are not really on the highway !!

What planet are they from ?

Boaters that keep their boat at a Marina have always overpaid for the privilege of using the gas dock. Fuel for a boat has always been the expensive side of boating recreation. Besides, Fishermen don't have to run the gas motor to spend the day fishing. The electric works just fine. It's the pleasure boaters that tow water toys and skiers and drag multiple jet skis to the lake that will be hit the hardest. In the long run, those that feel the need to play..., will pay. The most annoying part of the whole thing has been the reversal of diesel from an inexpensive fuel to the most expensive fuel even though that is not a recent occurance, it's still a major factor in the cost of goods today.

Gas prices are one of the reason why I sold my Jet ski's, that and the fact that when I moved here I was a little further from the water than I was in Florida.

I was a very respectful rider myself, but I totally understand what you mean.

My bicycle is all ready to take me where I go. Maybe with gas so expensive, there won't be so many large trucks and SUVs that nearly run me over when I'm on the road.

Welcome to Peak Oil. Petroleum Engineers have been warning about it for years, but it just wasn't sexy enough to get anyone's attention.

If the prognostications are correct, rapidly increasing prices are first (it's expensive, but available), followed by expensive with shortages (it's really expensive, and not always available), followed by all hell breaking loose.

When I was on Lake Somerville, it was the Jet boats, Jet Skis weren't so big back then.
