Quitting Smoking! Chantix .05 Anyone use this med ? - 05-25-2008, 09:44 PM

Well after holding on to a script since Oct and finaly on my 5/19 b-day I just got the thing filled. If smoking does not kill me procrastination will, lol.. Has anyone use this Chantix for quitting ciggerettes ? I want to know if there are any side effects I should be aware of before taking them? Like I should be worried that they could be any worse than the toxins I enhale to my lungs on a daily basis for the past 20 years. Just courious how it works and how successful it's been with other people ? Thanks, wish me luck!

Wow Chris good luck! It helped me quit without any major side effects (vivid weird dreams) although who's to say I wouldn't of had those anyway! lol
There's alot to read about it here (www.chantix.com)

I'm on it now, for the second try. I have really vivid dreams, sick to my tummy if I don't take food with it. The first time I took it, I had REALLY REALLY bad mood swings. Jeff asked me what I was making for dinner and I cried for 6 hours straight :) Its not easy to quit, but I'm so proud that Jeff has not smoked in almost a year. I quit for 4 months the first time, and now have about 3 weeks under my belt. Also, eat lots of ice, it helps with the munchies.

Didn't the FAA just declare this to be illegal to be used by Air Traffic Controllers and Pilots ?
I don't know what their justification was......

Prolly because of the mood swings. The ones I had made me useless. Seriously, all I could do was sit there and cry. LOL, its funny now, my poor husband was trying everything he could to get me to stop. He even went and bought me Ice cream LOL.

In the interest of full disclosure... you had a pretty stressful set of events that happened at the same time you were trying to quit and taking those drugs the first time... so you can't blame the mood swings on the Chantix 100%

Good for you Heather and Pamela! I think I may like the vivid dreams though! Do you still smoke while taking them ? And about how long until I start feeling like it's working ?

Sure I can ;)

But if it helps me and Jeff stay off the smokes, then I will cry all night if I have too. I do have to say, I miss it right now.

The first week, the .05, you are still smoking, then 7 days later is your quit date. When you start taking the next dosage,(week 2)is when you quit and is not so bad. Week 3 sucks, cuz you really want one then. Week 4, your starting to kinda get used to it.

As far as vivid dreams, I had one recently where I dumped my husband, and rannoft with Triple H (from WWE) to live in a Victorian house:)

I was prescribed a different drug but whatever helps is worth it. I had my mind made up before taking anything that I was going to quit though. The meds might of helped. It's been over three years now that I've been smoke free and I smoked for more than 20 years..

It's not easy and I applaud anyone that's able to do it. I still think the only way it will work is if the smoker them self has decided to stop poisoning them self.

Good luck with it Chris. You have my support if you need it.

No advice on the meds, but good luck! I didn't use anything but sunflower seeds to quit. My wife was prego, and I was just irritated at going outside to smoke every half hour. Its been 4 years, and the craving has never completely gone away...in fact this conversation is making my fingernails itch! The best advice I can give is to try not to hang around with smokers for a while. Again...GOOD LUCK BRO!
