Just a note. Some of these are so beneficial they should not be eaten while taking certain medications. I am taking Coumadin (Warfarin) and have to restrict my intake of vitamin K, so that includes spinach, kale, and most leafy green vegetables. I also cannot have red wine because it contains alcohol. Tea good news is that the Coumadin is working to dissolve some blood clots and I will be done with it by the end of July.

Coumadin = rat poison.

The bad news is that after two unsuccessful ablations I will be taking it until I have another one (not likely). I also go in for INR tests at least monthly.

Beats the alternative !!

I keep telling my wife that Hamburgers are the perfect food. They contain members of all 4 food groups. How can they be bad for you?!
She just rolls her eyes at me. What does she know anyway, she was dumb enough to marry me after all.

Actually, that isn't far from the truth. Just be sure to use lean ground beef (like sirloin), limit the cheese to one slice of American, and use mustard instead of mayo (or use fat free Miracle Whip). Yum... :-)

you forgot whole wheat low carb buns

I did the LA weight loss thing last year and lost 45ish pounds, but since the man got back from the desert, the diet has gone way down hill. Luckily I havent gained back too much and have maintained well.

You CAN have alcohol ( in moderation) on Coumadin as long as your doctor knows about it and adjusts your dosage accordingly. Only thing is, your alcohol intake has to remain constant. I refused to quit drinking beer, so my doctor agreed to 3 beers a day. Been following that for about 15 years now and no ill effects, except when I don't drink for a few days my blood gets TOO thin and I get nosebleeds!

I am reminded of a particular Bloom County comic strip, wherein Bill the Cat, Opus and all the gang are gathered on a park bench, suitably wasting time. A jogger appears and berates the group with such pieties as his heart rate, blood pressure and assorted boredoms for several frames. Finally, from out of the blue a lightning bolt zaps him to a puff of crispy powder, whereupon Opus asks, “Ding Dong anyone?”

Don't take life too seriously. No one gets out alive.
