The officer had only been on the streets for7 months? Sounds like someone was on a little bit of a power trip.

<sigh> Rookies..

Sounds like two rookies collide at the same time in space. I have known quite a few overnight shooters and they know how to get along with the street officers. Officer should have written him a ticket for blocking a moving lane or standing in roadway and wished him a nice day. Of course the complaint made at IAD will cause more grief for the officer than a complaint made to the news director or station manager would cause for the photog.

Well I don't know anything about video cams.. is there really any way the camera was a $50,000 camera??

On another note, things like this are common I think. It's not anything new. I applied for a security job once to make some extra money and ended up not going back after the interview because of how the real cops there acted. Not cop bashing.. just saying that I'm not surprised by this at all.
I have a friend from highschool that's a cop and he's a good guy.. his imaged is disgraced by guys like this on the video.

I watched it 3 times and from what I saw, the officer just attacked him and then started saying "you hit me"... looked like he tried to attack him from the side without the camera catching what happened but it was obviously too late.

The photographer should have gotten there sooner, that way he'd have got shot at. Then he wouldn't mind the cops showing up and taking charge.

It is this reason why police really do not like the media/photographers. While the officer was out of line as the level of force goes, the camera man should have gone to the staging area and left the crime scene. All he was doing was following the police officer around with the camera and not leaving. I have a great rapport with the local police in my area, they let me inside scenes quite often and call me if I miss an incident. Even the fire marshal calls me for stuff. I guess the point is expect to get what you give. What is going to save the officer from getting fired or something is that he is a rookie. The funny thing is they say it is raw video, but interestingly enough the entire first part of the incident was left out and you can hear him say he wants the badge # etc.... What happened before then?
Of course their "truth" was spliced a little differently because some people are gullible.
Looks like rookie will be going through the academy again!

Yes.... here is one of the standard type models.

Albuquerque is a fairly big city in terms of news broadcasts so surely the news stations would have the kind of money to buy these top of the line cameras... especially if they are broadcasting in HD.

I'd love to see the first part of this "raw" footage that was "left out". I have a feeling that there was something that occurred before that led to all of this.

I'll bet this photographer will see a big "bullseye" on him from now on when he goes a liitle fast or tries to beat a red light. It is not good to make the police department your enemy.

I hope both of these people learned a valuable lesson.
